Wasting Light

Fucking good record, right? Opening 6 tracks are up there as 6 of the best ever. Dips a little on 7 and 8 but climbs back up there on 9. 10 is emotional and 11 an epic closer.

Yes I know the song names but typing them out on a mobile hurts my thumbs.

But man White Limo. That is the greatest song the band made since 1997.

Still holding up there as 2nd best Foos album for me. Incredible.

Finally we agree on something.

Actually sinks on 7 but 8 brings it back up!
I love Matter of time! Probably my favorite on WL.

WL is the only record they´ve made this millenium which, judging by their setlists, they actually seem comfortable with.

I mean, Rope, Walk, These Days, White Limo are still regulars, Arlandria and Dear Rosemary make an appearance now and then.

1 X 1 - only AML survived (there would be so many great live ones though!)
IYH - only BOY survived (would love DOA, No Way Back and the more obscure Deepest Blues or Free Me too)
ESPG - only the Pretender survived (well Let it Die came back)
SH - they forgot that one, which understand completely.

This and There Is Nothing Left To Lose are my favorite two FF albums. There are so many rich sounds and songs here. It flows well and the documentary helped in the enjoyment. Miss the Misery is one of their most overlooked songs.

Hey let's not forget Times Like These from 1x1!

I think it's not necessarily a knock on previous albums, in particular I think they're quite fond of ESPG. But the Wasting Light songs are more straightforward rockers and work particularly well live (as opposed to something like, say, Come Alive)

Oh yes you are right, forgot TLT,

Judging by interviews they are not so fond on ESPG (didnt like the outcome, the way it was produced was not what they like etc..).

I love 1x1 and the rock side of IYH - both could be a million times better soundwise but there are really good songs on the albums. After that it's gotten a bit bland for me, WL was a highlight with White Limo and Bridges Burning.

It's nice to see they still appreciate some of their better songs. Arlandria is one of the best in a long time. It's what Resolve wanted to be.

Re: Wasting Light

I think Wasting Light was a nice bounce back album, ESPG was overrated. These Days is one of my favorite Foo Fighters songs, I'd like to hear that song full band acoustic.

Still their strongest effort since the first three albums, for sure. I'd probably rank it as high as #3 on my own list.

That's something else we don't really get these days, acoustic performances. They used to do in-stores or a few radio station things each year, now not so much.

I think they may have gotten bored w/ it, they were doing a lot. But there are some songs on the last couple of releases I would love to hear them do acoustically so I do miss it.

Yes, but they have got to the point in their career where they pretty much can only play the biggest hits from each album show after show. To their credit they do manage to mix it up a bit so it is not the same set every night. And don't forget Times Like These. I think Long Road to Ruin still makes it in sometimes and Cold Day in the Sun from IYH is a regular. As for Sonic Highways I think it was a great album. It appeals to a more mature audience where as Concrete and Gold is more kiddy orientated. I would much rather hear live songs from SH than C&G.

Wasting Light is hugely underrated - probably my second favourite Foos album

What do you mean by "kiddy orientated"? I don't get that vibe at all from C&G!

(Except maybe from TSIAN, my kids do love it)

Foo3001 April 4th 2018 10:41 AM

Re: Wasting Light

Kiddy oriented?

A band with bearded dads with a screaming lead singer? Who still does not rap (although there were rumors back in the day, remember ´That Ass´ :) )?

A band which plays guitar rock with 90s and 70s flavour with choruses that do not have a flavor-of-the-week kinda featuring artist on them?

Dunno how kids are wherever you are but in general kids don´t really give a shit about this kindof music just now.

I know, and they even use the F-word in Make It Right! :D

But back to Wasting Light....I listened to it again on the train home last night. The Foos have released songs that are better than anything on WL (except maybe White Limo). But as a complete album, and the way the tracks flow together, it is definitely one of their best
