Pretty sure this a complete Million $ Demo minus vox

I was on Youtube and I clicked on this and then I realized, holy shit, this ain't the 1x1 version of All My Life! Not a final version like on the snippets, because the violins are missing at the beginning. (I think whoever had this panned down the vocal track and a few things got lost.) The production sounds a lot cleaner on this version.

Anyways, here you go.

Listen to the snippets . . . pretty sure that this is the same as the Million Dollar Demo- going to compare the feedback between the verse and chorus on snippet and this.

I dunno dude, pretty sure they are one and the same, like I said, incomplete, but the drums and everything sound the same.

Maybe I'm wrong dude, I don't know, I could be, this just sounds a lot like the snippet, that's all I'm saying. (For the record, I don't know this guy or whatever, I'm just saying something perked up my ear, that's all).

If I am wrong, just lock the thread (he said sheepishly).

The feedback in this version and on the snippet version is exactly the same. EXACTLY. (Not like the final album version- the part after "on and on I've got nothing to hide".) Isn't that odd?

here's the two links:

and

They just seem identical to me, that's all. Which is why I posted this.

Definitely a cover. It's a pretty good one, but it's a cover.

Nope, not it.

The guitar on the "all my life ive been searching for something" parts is wayyyyyyyyyyyy softer and subdued. Almost closer to what Dave would do live for the part just before the bridge.

Maybe i'll find the time and just write a guide to what's different on this shit.....so someone can fake them, haha

i actually wish it would get released or leaked or something

it's something that, after a decade, people still second guess the shit out of and as much as I like the novelty of some of it, i realize it wasn't the record they put out for the right reasons.

I'm not campaigning to put One By One in the greatest albums of all time, but for years people have been talking about it like it was something where Dave overthought it, or the ridiculous idea that it got scrapped cause it was "too heavy for the record label" , or whatever.

I think if you play em both back to back, any reasonable person picks the 2nd record 10/10 times once you get past the "oooh" and "ahhh" factor of something new/rare.

It's the same reason why, in 1997, I was PISSED that "I'm Alone Again" never made it to The Colour and the Shape and now, I realize that it was just one of those ideas a new band was kicking around that never stuck because it wasn't as good as the other ideas they had.

The guitars sound very much the same,

but Im quite sure the drums are programmed on this one judging by what the hi-hat and other cymbals sound like..

The intro of the song where you can barely hear a kind of reverb is missing, that's just a cover for sure (very good btw)

It's rare that I hear outtakes/b-sides/early versions from a band and think they are better than what was released. There are exceptions where the label told the band what to put out or veto'd good stuff unfairly. But in most cases when I listen to the b-sides back to back with the album, I can agree with the band leaving them off. Even it's an amazing song I can see how it would not fit with the album songs or not be as strong. I seriously doubt Dave threw away those million dollar demos without some serious thought about it, mostly over time and cost. But I think the whole conspiracy theory that these demos are better and that there's a few great unheard tunes on there is pushing it. Once we get past the excitement of hearing it, to me it never lives up to the hype. yeah I know the final album got a great mix and effects and shit put on there and the original may be raw, but Dave re-recorded those songs for a reason. Maybe they are not the strongest set of tunes from the Foos, but they chose the good stuff. I know it had to have been Dave's call, not the label's. A million dollars is huge money for a band to spend on sub par recordings.

Ditto ... and why not? We're all die hard foo fans, why wouldn't we want to hear this stuff. I don't care if its not as good, I am sure it would be damn interesting. If I were a betting man (which i am) I would bet that they will eventually be released, on a boxset, anniversary edition, or whatever. Hopefully that happens before I die!

Perhaps if there's ever some Nirvana-like retrospective ala When thw lights go out- but serseriously folks I've just listened to Wasting light & S\r in headphones and realize how Dave must simply said have the final stamp on what gets put out- these ultimately are his
babies and his legacy and if you could say one thing about this band it would be that they
Sound freakin awesome...

I think the sound city project, Daves recording with that soundboard and their innate abilitu to play great other peoples music further confirms to this boy whos captain of this ship and just how much dedication to his craft he puts into it includin and up to deciding whats in and whats out...
We can only hope for another decade or two or more of this - done done on to the next one indeed!!

I agree . . . listening to the deluxe version of Smile by the Beach Boys is awesome because you can hear the songs morph over time. It would be a fascinating glimpse into the Foo's creative/editing process.

Am I right in saying there is only one song that hasn't been released as either a clip, full song as a b-side/album track etc or as a single (the one)
I can't remember which track it is that hasn't been released somehow off the top of my head though!
