Call for Dingwalls (2.0) Videos

Hey guys,

First up, I know... it's just what the forum needs - another Dingwalls thread

Edited to add - the project now has a youtube channel! And a tumblr...

I don't know about you guys, but there have been quite a few occasions when I've looked at the amount of video footage being shot at gigs, and wondered if it would be possible to reconstruct the entire show from the pieces.

So I'm going to try this with Dingwalls - effectivley, I'm viewing it as a large musical jigsaw puzzle :)

I have some of my own clips, and quite a few people have already agreed to contribute footage, but the more the better! I'm more interested in coverage than quality.

A few notes:

- this is not being done in anyway for profit. If I manage to pull this off, the results would be uploaded to YouTube. I intend to create a new YouTube account purely for this. I may embed it on a page on my own website (which is a work in progress) to keep it all together... but it would be hosted on YouTube, searchable and free to all.

- I will only use footage that I have full permission to use. I know some muppets rip off other peoples' work and upload it onto their own channel. As a keen photographer, I fully respect your copyright. A full list of contributors would be included at the beginning of each track, and at the end of the show. I am happy to use either your real name or a screen name of your choice.

- I don't know how long this will take!

- I'm not overly fussed about the quality of the clips. This is going to be rough and ready, and fun. I'm also very much looking for bits between the songs, so if you've just got a six second clip of Dave talking, that's fine!

As yet, I don't know what overall resolution I'll be aiming for. There may be a compromise to be made between different source materials, as well as the capabilities of my computer. It's fairly new, and mid-specced, but it wasn't bought with video editing in mind. I point this out as some folk I know don't want any of their material to be reduced in resolution, and I wouldn't be able to guarantee this.

I can't afford to pay people involved, however, I would be more than willing to burn the full movie to DVD and send you a copy.

If you think you might be interested, please contact me and let me know. Please feel free to:
- reply here
- send me a PM on the board (if you're a new member, you may find that you cannot post or message for a few days? I think this was put in place to reduce spam/trolls)
- email me - jj_forwarding [AT] yahoo[dot]co.uk
- message me through YouTube

Thank you for reading!

(Edited to add... as someone who avoided the new material on YouTube, I wouldn't be uploading tracks from the new album before the album release.)

I was looking at some of your vids of the various UK shows yesterday, good quality some of them.

This is a great idea, ive been trawling around trying to find bits but my computer has a tendancy to overheat and get mad when i view more than a few videos in one session so its been a really slow process.
i only got a couple of videos which are pretty poor quality mainly due to the sound :( i would love to have a whole collection to help preserve the memory in many years to come. its a night that will never be beaten!

Sounds like my old one... it's annoying, isn't it :(

Well, any contributions gratefully accepted :)

Quite a few people have said yes so far, so don't worry about the audio quality - I should be able to take audio from some of the clips and use a variety of video.

The videos I took are mixed quality, as for most of the show, my aging old camera would only shoot on low resolution, but decided to revert to better quality later...

Intro to For All The Cows.

I was expecting just hands and lights - you can't be that short ;) :p

Is it okay to use your clips? If not, that's cool, but it all helps!!

This isn't mine (I wish) but if it hasn't already been passed on to you might be worth asking the person responsible? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gEY_XYp90Ks&NR=1

(Only regret of the night - I couldn't see Mr Hawkins playing from where I was standing.)

Thanks for the heads up - I have already contacted that person (not sure if they are male or female) through their YouTube account, but have yet to hear back. S/he does have some lovely videos, though.

I got the occasional flash of Taylor's teeth, but that was it... I was more or less in front of Nate, so didn't get any decent photo's of Taylor. I'm not so bothered for myself, but I have a couple of friends who are very fond of him, and I always like to enable them with their obsessions ;)

always down with a bit of taylor love :)
when they played the acoustic set at o2 i was on the barrier of the second stage staring at him whilst he played, then I got to have roger taylor too :)

I had a pretty decent view of taylor on friday and saturday, I seem to have a habit of gravitating to the left hand side of the stage at the moment!

It's amazing how so many people find a spot they like, then stick to it :D

I _should_ mix it up a bit, really... but I always just head for the bassist :p

For me it depends on the venue. Generally I gravitate LEFT when I go into somewhere that's standing because that's where you'll find the blokes toilets!

However for the recent Foos gigs I have been purposefully stage right so I could get me some Pat action.

I like your sense of practicality ;) And I've just spent a disturbing amount of time trying to remember where the ladies' loos are in every venue I can remember going to. :o

He certainly always looks as though he's enjoying himself!

Just giving this a little nudge in case anyone missed it. See first post - such a great idea, and a nightmare to organise.

(Apologies if gratuitous 'bumping' of topics is frowned upon here - I'm new in town.)

By the way - if anyone out there is geeky enough to know off hand which fonts FF have used of late, can you please let me know??

Cheers :)
