Dear Mr. Grohl

Dear Mr. Grohl,

Knowing you are an avid chess player, I was wondering if you would be interesting in playing me sometime. I understand you are very busy, so I am willing to wait until the end of your current tour before playing you in a Best of 3 chess game. I hope it will be enjoyable for you and myself, as well as the large crowd such an interesting match-up is bound to draw.

I feel we should use a glass chess set, I feel it looks better and refracts the light nicely, but I will use a standard wooden chess set if you want to.

I would also like to play you at Scrabble, but I feel that with you being American, it could lead to arguments over correct spelling, so we'll play Risk instead.

Thank you for your time,
Thomas.

Mr. Grohl,

It seems that you haven't contacted me, I'll just assume you are busy and keep refreshing my e-mails every 2 minutes.

Waiting for you,
Thomas

Mr. Grohl,

Still no word.... my e-mail is thom.npe@gmail.com

I think you might be trying gmale.com, that's wrong. I'll forgive you for messing it up because I'm sure you have a lot on your mind with touring and fighting crime.

Also, would you like tea or lemonade when we play our chess game? I'm going to have some tea.

By the way, I uncovered an ancient map that leads to the Holy Grail. We should follow it, because that would be awesome. You could play a show at the Grail site, or we could play Risk there.

Hope to hear from you now,
Thomas.

Mr. Grohl,

I bought a bongo drum today.

I'll let you see it at the chess game. E-mail me.

Banging the drum,
Thomas

Dear Mr. Grohl,

I didn't mean it. I still love you, please don't be mad.

E-mail me about our arrangements, I may invite a few friends around. Some of them don't like Foo Fighters. CAN YOU BELIEVE THAT??

Anyway, hope to hear from you soon... because I do worry and I do care.

Love,
Thomas.

Dear Mr. Grohl,

I was sitting in my exam today and the paper mentioned the eye.

Isn't the eye wonderful?

Useful for seeing chess pieces, wouldn't you say?

Love,
Thomas

Re: Dear Mr. Grohl

Dear Mr. Grohl,

Are you comfortable, on this, the day of your own Birth?

I hope you've got a tasty ginger ale to celebrate. You're a naughty man, but since it's your Birthday, I think you are OK to drink.

Keep it in moderation, though. You want to remember your Birthday. :p

Another year and another chance to learn a new skill. I think you should try and learn Tae-bo. Never know when it will come in handy as defence from some of your more 'crazed' fans. You could also take up Calligraphy and make it into an art. I know you can do it, if you set your heart on it. :)

Happy Birthday, Sir!

Love,
Thomas

Re: Dear Mr. Grohl

Dear Mr. Grohl,

It has been brought to my attention that a lack of reply may indicate that you do not know how to play chess. While I don't think this is true, it is possible. However, all is not lost, for I will train you in the ways of rooks, knights, bishops and pawns and then we can play a game which will go down in history as the greatest game of chess ever.

Not being able to play chess is nothing to be ashamed of, and I have full confidence you can learns the laws of the game rather quickly. I don't doubt your ability for a second.

Oh, and we can listen to CD of The Planets by Gustav Holst. It's a rather wonderful recording performed by the Royal Scottish National Orchestra and fantastically conducted by Mr. David Lloyd-Jones. The atmosphere set up by Mars, The Bringer of War should be enough to make the following chess match a good one! Tally ho!

Goodbye for now Mr. Grohl.

Love,
Thomas

Dear Mr. Grohl,

Sorry I've not been writing as often as I should, I have become rather busy with other things. How are you? Still no reply about the proposed chess game, please reply soon or I may have to send this request to Mr. Mendel, but I'm sure you wouldn't want that.

I hear you're in Europe, that must indeed be spiffing, I found a simply wonderful photograph of you ice skating, as fun as ice skating is, it's not as fun as chess, a sport, yes, sport, of kings.

Keep up the good work, Sir, because I do miss you and hope the chess match will not go undone.

Love,
Thomas

Dear Mr. Grohl,

So, a gig in Hyde Park? I can't help but feel it's the foundation of a game of some sort, chess perhaps? If that's the case, I'm very sorry as there's a chance I'll be in Egypt that week. Please contact me as soon as possible to change the gig to the week before to save hassle.

Love,
Thomas

Dear Mr. Grohl,

Happy St. Valentine's Day!

If you were here, we could acquire a Valentine's themed Chess set, eh?

P.S. You are still a respectable figure I'd like to play chess with though.

Dear Thom -

I don't know how to play chess, however my 12 year old can kick your ass. I'll send her over. Please do not return her until she is 17 and not a punk. No touchie though.

Love,
Jill

Dear Jill,

Chess is super fun and I'll kick your daughters proverbial chess ass, because bullying kids through chess makes me feel like a big man. No touchie though, I'm not Gary Glitter.

Love,
Thom

Dear Mr. Grohl,

Sorry it's been a while, rest assured, I've been perfecting my strategy for the impending game of chess. I hope you are well prepared, Mr. Grohl. I wouldn't want to face an unarmed man in chess related combat. Hahaha.

Love,
Thomas
