NYC Irving Plaza Show - Lineup times, General discussion {threads merged}

GOTTA GO. I think maybe the Hammerstein, but they haven't released a venue before like a week early so far.

ANYWHO, I told my family I'm not coming to visit until the week after Thanksgiving so I can try and get to this showwwwwww.

Just wondering if anyone has heard anything or knows anything :)

Saw the Sound City Players at the Hammerstein...great venue. Hope it's there, but I'm thinking they will do a series of shows at Ed Sullivan

Ugh. I just figure if they don't do a week ahead presale that I'll crash out at a friends in the city the night before so I can sit outside of wherever it is ALL DAY to get a ticket. (Depending on where it is and how they are selling them)

MUST SEE.

Just saw the guys last week in NOLA, it was AMAZING.

Irving is a good guess!

Holy smokes I cannot wait to find out, hopefully they are obtainable.

My grandparents are so sad that I'm not coming for thanksgiving but, THE FOO IS MORE IMPORTANT.

Can I suggest that grandparents are actually more important than the Foo?

+1

Chances of getting tickets are very slim, even more so if they do it like Austin/L.A.

Ha. I think even the band would agree with this!

Not that I hope you don't get tickets or anything, but go and see your grandparents on Thanksgiving. :)

Well, when I see them the following week I don't think it will be that big of a deal... I'll let them know about the kind concerned souls that have their back, though.

Re: Any guesses on the NYC Venue for the December 5th premier?!

So I've been thinking about this a lot. The band has been playing veunes that are either historically significant to the city, or significant to the band:

The Cubby Bear in Chicago
The Black Cat in Washington, DC
The Ryman in Nashville
Austin City Limits in Austin

I tried to think of venues like this in NYC. Not just small, but significant. With all of the venues that closed in Manhattan in the last 20 years, the list is pretty small. Tramp's, the first place in NYC that Foo Fighters played, is gone. So is CBGB's. So is Wetland's. So is Roseland. So is just about any other historically significant music venue.

The only ones left are the Hammerstein (where they played with the Sound City Players) and Irving Plaza. Both small venues, and both available on Dec. 5. But -- correct me if I'm worng -- neither jumps out as particularly significant to the history of music in NYC or to the band.

Then I thought MADISON SQUARE GARDEN! Significant both historically and for the band. But it's booked on Dec. 5, and doesn't quite fit with the vibe of smaller venues for this tour.

Then it hit me... THE ED SULLIVAN THEATER! It's meaningful both historically and to the band -- they've got a great relationship with Letterman, they did the week-long residency there, and played that special show for the release of Wasting Light back in 2011. And since they don't record there on Fridays, the Theater is available on Dec, 5.

So that's my bet, folks. We'll see if it comes to pass. No matter where they play, we all know it will be a hard ticket to score.

P.S. LOVE the new album!

My first thought was Irving plaza, but after reading The Ed Sullivan Theater, that totally makes sense. I'm guessing it will be nearly impossible to get tix, but doesn't mean there won't be a lack of trying. BTW, I am a VERY young, new grandmother of a 6 mo. old & would definitely be cool if my kids or grandson had FF tix WHENEVER!!! Here's hoping for NYC.

They already played at Ed Sullivan Theater for the Sonic Highways premiere?

They played every night for a week on David Letterman but that wasn't the official Sonic Highways after the HBO show concert.
