Re: Why is there no love for February Stars?

I find February Stars a little on the operatic side, like most of Sonic Highways.

Re: Them crooked vultures..

My TCV t-shirt is in the mail. Since the consensus seems to be that it's lame to wear the band's shirt to the band's concert, I think I can get away with wearing the TCV shirt to the Foos' July 4...

Re: Them crooked vultures..

Dave is sort of everywhere these days and I assume there would be screaming, which in all honesty gets old for me after a while. I find Josh's voice pleasantly quirky. Don't know if I'd want them to...

Re: Sonic Highways - Yey or nay?

Several recent commenters are underwhelmed by SH and I have to agree with them. Every song to me sounds ponderous and, worse, has no apparent relationship to the city on which it's based. Do you hear...

Re: Dream setlist

All of Sonic Highways, of course. I'd only have them do 20 other songs, otherwise Dave's voice would give out and Chris and Pat's hands would be bloody (which actually would be kind of cool to see --...

Re: Ok so wht foo track got you hooked???

It seemed like the only FF video in the MTV rotation in the late 90s (when MTV still showed videos) was I'll Stick Around. There was just enough of a hint of Dave's showmanship in it to haul me in.

Re: What Foo Record Do You Put On During The Holidays?

My wife got a new car and the first time I rode in it, she'd already uploaded SH, as I expected, but she surprised me with ESP&G next. It was already in our Xmas mix at home. We like its back and...

Re: Your favourite Foo Fighters album

Have to go with TCATS, but I like the acoustic side of IYH better every time I listen to it. IYH may be overlooked but that doesn't make it bad.

Re: Them crooked vultures..

I've been playing this album nonstop all week. It just feels like Josh was treating Dave like more of an equal that Kurt ever did, or could. But I wonder why we didn't see more of Josh on the HBO...

Re: Top 10 Foo Fighters Songs, according to CoS

Top 10 lists are one of the top 10 things I hate the most. If I don't agree with your list, that means you suck, and vice versa. Just enjoy the damn songs without turning them into a pissing contest....

Re: Sonic Highways - Yey or nay?

C'mon now, kids, I hate these postboard pissing contests because we're all supposed to be on the same side (although you can't have my DC tickets or my Generator EP from the UK).

Re: Sonic Highways - Yey or nay?

I've always liked Dave's lyrics. Nice twists on common figures of speech, that kind of thing, although he started getting dark on IYH, darker on ESPG and really bad energy on WL (e.g., One of These...

Re: Sonic Highways - Yey or nay?

My partner, a latecomer to Foo fandom, loves SH. I don't. We were listening to "I Am a River" in the car and she was singing along. All I could do at the end was sigh and say, "Well, it ain't no 'My...

Re: QOTSA + Dave - Trautmann = ?

To clarify, "Go With the Flow" is my favorite track on Songs for the Deaf. But the best drumming, by a long shot, is Dave's on "First It Giveth."

QOTSA + Dave - Trautmann = ?

So did Gene Trautmann leave Queens on his own or did Josh ask him to leave (or at least sit out) because Dave was available? I only ask because Trautmann played drums on "Millionaire" and the best...

Re: Blasphemy

Jeez, you people surprise me. A relatively civil discussion follows a mild criticism of SH. Kumbaya. A couple of points: No, I won't be wearing a band T-shirt in DC. I was just trying to make the...

Re: Blasphemy

I like Sonic Highways a hell of a lot more than Wasting Light. It's just that it got so much hype before its release that I had to prepare to be disappointed.

Blasphemy

After the buildup from the HBO series and all the other promotion, self- and otherwise, I'm really disappointed with Sonic Highways.
Overproduced, overthought, no spontaneity, no chances taken, no...

Re: Sonic Highways the HBO TV series - discussion

I think Dave gives Chris a hard time because he's so damn dour all the time. It's one thing to be laid-back like Nate but Christ, Chris, you're the lead guitar for the biggest effin' band on the...

Re: Sonic Highways the HBO TV series - discussion

Learned a lot from the DC episode. Bad Brains used to play Detroit a lot. Speaking of, it was nice to see some love for Ted Nugent before he lost his mind. What was the deal with Rollins? He wasn't...
