I prefer their earlier stuff but they are gonna change slightly to follow the music of the time, they still have their own style i think which is good

I agree with you. And I think the ESPG record is one of their bests.
Though you can't get tired of AC/DC even though u know what u gonna get from them.

First of all this thread was started in 2005 and secondly people are entitled to their opinion so telling them to shove off is rather rude.

The thread starter had an opinion which he was entitled to.

I'd say anyone who disagrees that they have lost their edge hasn't got a clue. I still love them, they are different now but they certainly aren't edgy anymore.

I'm sure they would, doesn't change the fact some would not and are entitled to that opinion. So you need to stop being rude towards people that have differing opinions to your own.

I love them a lot, they're one of my two alltime favourite bands ever. But I wouldn't dismiss other peoples opinions about them. Fair enough if you want to make a point about why you disagree, but you kinda weren't?

Prefer their earlier work but there are songs that I like on all their albums but unfortunately for me they're usually the ones they don't promote or play often for that matter.I know it may be an unpopular opinion but songs like Walk and These Days make me cringe because they are starting to sound a little too much like Bon Jovi.Huge arena rock anthems that have a certain blandness about them.

One of the criticisms I notice from casual listeners is that all their songs sound the same which we know isn't true, but many of their singles which get loads of airplay could give off that perception.

I'm really glad this thread is still going.I personally disagree with the original sentiment, but different strokes, different folks.I think people perceive the term "edge" differently, just as music is perceived differently by each individual. For me the FF's "edge" is the depth of their talent...Witnessing the evolution of this band has truly been my life's favorite musical experience.

I agree, well not to Bon Jovi extent but anyway, the "big rock songs" theyve written lately are a bit generic. However, even if Im not the biggest fan of Best of You for example I got to admit it has a great feel to it.

But, Im biased, been a fan from the day the 1st record came out, to me, the first three records will always be the definition of how the Foo Fighters are at their very best.

Foo have lost an edge then gained it back.

1x1, IYO and ESPG were solid albums that the band put effort in to. I think once the band became so big, as well as matured as people, the inspiration shift took a while to kick in. Those albums are very interesting to me because you can really hear them tinkering with all they have acquired over all their years in music, for better or for worse. The vision did not seem as strong and compelling on those records as they did on the first 3 (which are universally accepted as the best).

Wasting Light, to me, is them coming full circle with their convictions back to as close as they had it when they were younger, fresher and quite honestly, punkier. All of the albums preceding came to this later career opus, which pays off amazingly in context of the band's history. It is a great glue that actually makes me enjoy all the other albums even more, especially the 3 2000's ones.

This is all coming from an avid fan who tries to look at things through the bands eyes as much as possible. I see it totally making sense for them to progress the way they did, and that is good enough reason for me to just sick back and enjoy the tunes they produced.

Dave said he needed adaptate his songs to all people tastes, i think he would not survive too much time if he plays only grunge songs, grunge is dead since nirvana's death.
