Default The next record

Dave discussing the next record in this interview.

The thing he planned to do that was never done before has now been done by another (not big) band recently.. anyone care to guess what that idea may have been?

I'm glad, I think I'd be more than happy with just a normal straight forward recorded album. It really is about the content.

Must admit I felt relief when I heard it too. I would far rather a straight forward concept-free 11 track FF record.

Oo, don't know. It would be nice to just have an album, but I think he'll just think of something new.

Or maybe Sonic Highways season two just got a little more likely.

Fingers crossed for a 'normal' album from the Foos next. Sonic Highways season 2 doesn't need an accompanying Foo Fighters album if it does happen. I'd much rather a Sound City-esque record that let's all the musicians involved get more... involved.

Personally i'd like a foos record with just the Foos on, as much as I enjoy Sound City & Sonic Highways.

Well if we're putting out a wish list here, rerelease of pocketwatch and accompanying tour of it. Yeah yeah, i know it will never happen.

But i agree with the calls for a straight forward foos record.

Yeah, I'm super cool with a straight up new record, recorded at 606.

Edit: Anyone thinks the "stolen" idea was what Beyonce did? (releasing an album out of nothing?). That's the only "new" "novelty"-ish thing I've heard in a while.

No, the B album was out before they started recording SH.

I can't think of anything really "concept" that's come out recently. The only thing that sprung to mind is PJ Harvey recording her new album behind one-way glass allowing the public to observe it in 45minute bookings.

This doesn't sound like something I'd put past Dave. Imagine that.

I don't think we'll ever get a straight forward recorded album again, the old 'Walk in a studio for 3 months, walk out'. Dave seems bored by that now, he is always looking for something else to make it interesting for them after all these years. It seems he caught the video/directing bug pretty hard so I'd expect something video related again, personally.

I'm definitely okay w/ that. Imagine how awesome it would be if they did that w/ albums like TCATS or TNLTL! I'd love to watch those sessions.

I think that's certainly one way it could go - a full documentary about every day making an album - all the changes, every argument or agreement. Retries, changes, new ideas, mixing, mastering, releasing and deciding on singles. Ending up with a Bluray/documentary, a standard album with singles, and maybe an immediately included B Album of the out takes and off casts.

Been lots of after the fact album documentaries, but not a lot I can think of that were planned going into the studio on day one.

I really like the idea of this, and guessed that they might be doing this when they were actually making Sonic Highways. Having said that, after seeing them live a few days ago, I think it's time Dave made another Vultures album - his batteries seem a little low. And remember how strong he came back with Wasting Light after the first TCV album?

Iīve seen the FF six times I think, listened to tons of bootlegs and of course watched all the official and official-ish appearances,

The best shows were in 2002 (firsts are always best but still..) and since then itīs been a slow dowhill I think. The worst I saw was on ESP&G tour, got to admit the show on WL tour was way way better.

Metallica's Some Kind of Monster is an OUTSTANDING documentary that started out as a "making of" promotional film for the album they were going to record. It turned out to be something completely different.
