I've tried to see them 2-3 times on their last tours lately. They've never played the same setlist twice. I'd buy a number of official boots if they made them available. Do they play the bulk of the same songs? Sure, but I usually get something different thrown in if I don't see them back-to-back and I spread out the dates when I see them on tour. You can't please everyone. I could make up a setlist that wouldn't satisfy you or someone else. Same goes if you made one up. If they didn't play a lot of their hits, a lot of people would be pissed. It's mainly the diehards (nerds) who want something different.

There are a ton of people who are seeing them for the first time so they are going to play the hits. They are now huge and selling out stadiums on different continents. They must be doing something right.

Don't start a setlist chat

Generally the setlists are near identical, an odd song may change but it's pretty much the same, often down to the same 'banter' and chat.

The banter this time was different...frankly not a lot of it since they EXACTLY 60 minutes.

Dave had to get to Cleveland for the RRHoF! We knew it was going to be short, sweet and awesome.

I've got boots of most of his shows that I went to and his banter wasn't the same. Maybe I'm catching them on a good night. I know the show they played on Halloween last year was different from any show I've ever seen them play. They played a festival here awhile back and played Darling Nikki. They rarely play that. That's why I go to hear them break those out. I like covers as long as there aren't too many and they mix them up.

Quality bootlegs with varying sets are scattered across the tours for the first 3 albums. This is when the set would be different each night, from the first to the last song. There's heaps of great quality soundboard/radio broadcast sets, minus all the extended jams, that you would be best to go for than multiple recordings of the same set for this tour.

The one off shows and festivals do tend to be different - different time scales and situations. The arena tours as far as I've observed have tended to be the same, although the last few years there's been more changes in guests and covers, so that does give it a tiny variety.

It doesn't bother me, I'm still happy to go.

Let's be clear here, FF have NEVER been a band with wildly varying sets on the same tour. The first tour it's excused of course, since they only had one album, but even after that things wouldn't vary greatly. The order, maybe, but never huge variations in the actual songs. They're not PJ, never have been, never will be.

Example of 1997 variation:

Enough Space
Wind Up
Wattershed
Alone + Easy Target
Hey, Johnny Park!
Monkey Wrench
Doll
My Poor Brain
See You
For All The Cows
Big Me
Weenie Beenie
February Stars
Everlong
New Way Home
I'll Stick Around
Up In Arms
This Is A Call

Wind Up
Wattershed
Hey, Johnny Park!
Monkey Wrench
Alone + Easy Target
Doll
See You
My Poor Brain
For All The Cows
Enough Space
Big Me
Weenie Beenie
February Stars
Everlong
New Way Home
This Is A Call
Up In Arms
I'll Stick Around

1999:

Stacked Actors
This Is A Call
My Poor Brain
For All The Cows
Breakout
Learn to Fly
My Hero
Aurora
Weenie Beenie
Up In Arms
Monkey Wrench
Hey, Johnny Park!
Alone + Easy Target
Everlong
Big Me
I'll Stick Around

Stacked Actors
My Poor Brain
For All The Cows
Breakout
Learn to Fly
Up In Arms
Ain't it the Life
Monkey Wrench
Hey, Johnny Park!
Alone + Easy Target
Everlong
Generator
Aurora
I'll Stick Around
New Way Home
This Is A Call

2002/3:

All My Life
My Hero
Generator
Learn to Fly
For All The Cows
Have It All
Stacked Actors
Times Like These
The One
Low
Hey, Johnny Park!
Monkey Wrench
Tired Of You
Everlong
Aurora
Breakout

All My Life
Have It All
Generator
My Hero
Learn to Fly
Up In Arms
Stacked Actors
Never Talking To You Again
Times Like These
For All The Cows
Low
Hey, Johnny Park!
Tired Of You
Everlong
Aurora
Monkey Wrench
Breakout

2005

In Your Honor
All My Life
Times Like These
My Hero
Best Of You
Learn to Fly
The Last Song
Stacked Actors
Up In Arms
Tired Of You
Everlong
Have It All
The One
This Is A Call
Monkey Wrench
Cold Day In The Sun
DOA
End Over End
Breakout

In Your Honor
All My Life
My Hero
Best Of You
Up In Arms
Learn to Fly
Times Like These
The One
Stacked Actors
Big Me
DOA
Generator
This Is A Call
Breakout
Everlong
I'll Stick Around
Resolve
No Way Back
Cold Day In The Sun
Monkey Wrench

I could go on, but you get the point. Sure, there was always the odd show here and there where they did something a little different, club gigs etc, but for the vast majority of shows on tours they've always stuck to the same, fairly rigid setlists.

I know. I have hundreds of their bootlegs along with other artists either in flac format or vinyl/cds that I've bought back before torrent sites became popular. Some boots are really good, some others, not so much. They could release a show every night of every show. And as Simon said, they've stuck to the same setlist almost every tour. They're not Pearl Jam, Widespread Panic, Gov't Mule or Bruce Springsteen as far as setlists go. Never will be. I'd still like the option to buy an official boot of the show I attended and a few others on the night they break out something different.

The primary sales of anything like that would always be people at the show wanting a memory, the numbers of people buying multiple shows, even if they were radically different, would still be low. But anyway this has been brought up a few times and as far as we know it's not something the band or label are currently interested in doing.

I can't believe that it's been a week since tho happened! And wow, did we luck out on the weather. It's been crappy since.

I stopped by the Record Connection on Wednesday to say Hi to Jeff. He's still on cloud nine and swamped. Lots of new people coming into the store which has to be amazing for his business! Even Ross Halfin is out of his tshirts because Dave wore his at the event. LOVE IT.

I think if they switched up their set lists quite a bit then the numbers wouldn't be as low as you think. Still, with the current technology, I don't see why they don't at least give it a try. It would be another revenue stream and if it doesn't take off then there isn't a lot lost since there isn't a ton of risk involved.

Basically they only need to press up cd's that are ordered so no mass stock lying around.

I think that is how nugs does it. They offer MP3, FLAC, FLAC-HD, ALAC, ALAC-HD and cd's and produce the cd's on demand.

Damn, that was a fuking rad time!! I'm so grateful to these guys and those I've met because of these guys. They are responsible for so many ridiculously huge grins on my face and incredible memories. It's the only time in my life when I'm truly happy. For reals. "I'm never as happy as when I'm on that rail" isn't just a silly statement.
