Maybe he's referring to the peak of the "Napster" phenomenon, before iTunes brought back paying customers.

"Disappeared" is a strong word. I'm curious to know to what degree he might be exaggerating.

Not sure what you're getting at, I think he means that record sales have (universally) gone down because of streaming/YouTube etc. They're obviously still selling some records though.

Here's the band with some new gold the the other day.

Wasn't Taylor Swift the only artist who made it to platinum in the last year, or something like that?

it certainly didn't disappear but given the size of the structure they have to support it probably just covers the crew meal for a month. =P

I think he´s speaking in general - it´s true, records dont really sell anymore. Music is more or less a byproduct now.

There´s been talk of the covers in their live shows in other threads, I came up with a theory that they´re playing them because they´re not a stadium status band yet back catalogue-wise so they resort to borrowing a few undeniable stadium sing-alongs. The bit in the interview kinda speaks for my theory, they´re kinda forced to play bigger venues than they normally would.

What it is, is firstly even popular artists stopped making as much money from record sales when digital downloads came into play; digital albums are cheaper and the customer can pick and choose and perhaps just download a couple of tracks from the album which costs peanuts. Next came streaming and that pretty much put the nail in the coffin as far as making serious money from record sales. I even remember Dave saying a while back something along the lines of "no one really makes money from selling records these days". And that to survive its all got to be about playing the big live shows.

If its anything to go by though both The Pretender and Best of You have recently been certified as Gold singles in the UK, and that's 400,000 copies sold each, the vast majority will of course be downloads.

Really interesting bit of info.

That's funny about DOA. It seemed to do well at the time, had a sweet popular video, everyone I know (fan or not) thinks it's one of their best and seems to have more crossover appeal than most of their stuff - and I always hear people screaming for it live. Really makes you wonder why they don't really play it.

It should come as no surprise that bands don't make much money at all from selling music nowadays - and Spotify, premium or otherwise really doesn't do much at all to help. For one person to make minimum wage from listens you about a million a month. That alone shows you how much it adds to the devaluation of music and I doubt that that kind of income dents Foos' collective outgoings.

Its a cool song though, very catchy, could probably crossover radio formats. It hasn't been in a live set since 2012 though, and even back then it was a rare occurrence.
The Video was rad...?

Me too! They all looked really good in that one.

If Taylor is going to cut his hair then he can cut it like it is in that video.

Do the record sales include things like spotify etc when you download from that site?
