Default Foo Fighters 20th anniversary Edition in 2015?

What are your thoughts on this?

I have to admit I wasn't a fan of the Nirvana reissues because of the bad remastering, but on the other hand it's nice to have all this stuff with demos and rarities.

I'd really like to listen to a remastered version of the 1995 debut if the remastering process is done carefully. Compared to TCATS the sound is very poorly, but I love these songs. Maybe this album can finally get the sound it deserves.

Would love to see Daves Demo Tapes from the early 90s on this release!

I certainly hope so, but we've not heard anything official about one. They have vetoed the idea of re-recording the album as a band but for sure they can do a very nice package including the remastered album, the three extra tracks from the S/T session, Dave's demos of the songs and for a video portion the famous and highly popular Brixton 1995 show, in full for the first time.

We can only hope something is in the pipeline.

Gonna have to disagree; I think the first album is the better sounding album by far. At lot more natural than the super slick and processed nature of TCATS.

But it might still be nice to hear some remixed tracks, as well as unreleased stuff. Still wish Taylor hadn't shot down the re-recording idea.

I wish they would do a boxset. A cleanout of all the unreleased material from the vaults. But thats not gonna happen....

Hell, they could release a box set for each album's 20th if they wanted to. B-sides, rarities, live show on CD and DVD if done in the same format as the Nirvana Nevermind and In Utero 20ths.

They could indeed. Just depends if they want to, of course. They certainly have the material.

I'd rather have the Self Titled live from 606.

I love how S/T sounds, but wouldn't mind having a remaster at all, a new perspective could be awesome if done well. Though what would be more interesting to me is a full re-mix of the original clean stems, if they still have them, remasters seem to do little but muffle things and make them louder. I adore TCATS's production, very tight, as much as I love the rough grungy edge of S/T. I have mostly always referenced TCATS when speaking to producers and engingeers about the kind of sound my band want in new recordings.

It's a shame that Taylor vetoed a full re-record. I think that would send them to a good place musically for the future, and it'd be nice to hear the material polished. They could even implement some live jams to slightly extend some of the bridges, why the hell not, it's not like the first album will go anywhere! Would be a refreshing amount of effort gone into a landmark anniversary.

You know I just realized something....

relatively speaking Foo Fighters don't have a ton of product n merch.
I mean they do have quality, and perhaps that's the point, but they really only put out select stuff you know,
I mean I'm not complaining,
k maybe a wee bit
but for example Pearl Jam has released whole concerts of dozens upon dozens of live shows, rarities etc for years now.

So do a lotta other rock bands.

Simon, anyone, know why this is?
Is it intentional to keep down the releases for Foo Fighters?

cheers?
:/

Foo Fighters are more of a casual singles band to the general public whereas Pearl Jam kind of rely on old fans, they've not had the longevity, which leads to more hardcore products for hardcore fans like more live shows and rarities collections. Dave also seems savvy with marketing as the rest of the band have said, he knows what he's doing on more than a musical level, they've never really needed to exhaust their audience considering the success their singles, films, music videos and shows have always had. He always said he wanted to wait for the Greatest Hits and I don't think they'll be another for a while, he has that power to choose also because of his singular popularity plus that of the band. They have Medium Rare and plenty of live DVD's anyway, so it's not like we've had nothing. There's always the Leftovers for those who want to dig deeper, too.

So we're now less than a month from 4th July, 20th anniversary date of ST, and no word of an anniversary re-release. Seems way too short notice now.

Kinda surprising actually how little they're making of this significant milestone. Sure Dave mentions it at most gigs in a passing comment, and there is the show on July 4th, but apart from that, not much going on.

I suppose something can still be announced and come out after July 4th, but hopes are diminishing.

Yes really thought a rerelease was the obvious thing, with a box set and booklet option as some kind of special edition along side it. Missed opportunity I feel.

There seemed like a large scale of options. They could have gone big, like those Nirvana re-issues, and made big 4-Disc box-sets, or kept it relatively simple and just re-issued the CD with the three extra tracks from the session. Shame if they're not doing anything to mark it.

Yes, very disappointing.Even just a 2cd set would be great.Hell, even songs from the laundry room on cd would do.Just something! Unless there won't be a physical release, just a free download on the day?*

*Wishful thinking

Doubtful, but you never know. I'm sure they'll do something to mark it. Well I mean they're already doing the DC show, but I'm still hopeful of something more than just a twitter/FB post "20 years ago today ST was released!" thing.

Wonder if they will stream the show? If so I may have to ask you for a favour! 😊
