Good question, maybe because the general punters won't realise/ know it's from Pocketwatch and get excited because he's playing a Nirvana song?

i would be. it's awesome. Scentless Apprentice is one of my fave Nirvana songs coz of the drumming.
Dave came up with one of the riffs too, didn't he??

the Foos doing an instrumental version of this would be awesome. and i don't think it would be 'wrong', either, coz it's Dave's song too.

Scentless Apprentice is my favorite too.

My Hero sounds a lot like it.

Yeah, some of them may be Dave's songs, but they're not Foo Fighters songs, and who'd be performing them? Not just Dave, Foo Fighters. However you could argue since Dave wrote all of the self-titled songs they shouldn't play them, so my theory has just gone out of the window. I shouldn't argue against myself. Nevermind.

I don't see why anyone would want him to try and cover Nirvana songs. It's just plain stupid. Nirvana are Nirvana, Foo Fighters are Foo Fighters, move on.

It ain't gonna happen.

"Would you ever cover a Nirvana song?"
"No, no, no, no, no, no, no. Those belong in their own place and time. I wouldn't want to ruin one of those. Those were three totally different people. Well, two of them were different anyway."

Yeah, About a Girl was done in like 1992 when he was in the band....

Given the circumstances of how the band ended, it'd be awkward to do that now.......For every fan that got giddy at the idea of it, there'd be several fans who would actually find it kindof uncomfortable.

I know the other 3 guys in the band would feel really weird playing a Nirvana song, probably even more weird than Dave would feel about it

exactly just imagine you've formed a band written lots of great songs over many years then your lead singer goes "hey lets play some songs by my old band". Personally if i was Nate,Chris or Tay id be a little annoyed.

I could have sworn I read / heard...And I specifically remember a PM exchange with Schu about this..that it was recorded around the time that Dave was either recording demos or tracking for the debut Foo Fighters album..that him and Barrett Jones were in the studio recording some random covers etc and Dave did a full band version of "About A Girl", with him recording vocals. bass, guitars, drums like the first FF record..

Dave's voice would suit this song very nice....I wouldn't exactly kill to hear the foos doing Nirvana songs at this stage..But someday it'd be nice to hear Dave singing that one..
The random covers thing is something he did pretty much all the time from when he first started recording his own stuff and "About a Girl" was definitely during a break in Nirvana....

Basically the info was from conversations I've had with someone who's heard a lot of that stuff thru Barrett (a friend of his) and someone who I can definitely believe what they say since they're the source for that "Down in the Park" session tape getting heard.

I have exchanged emails with Barrett himself years ago when I was doing an equipment guide for Ed's site "Up In Arms" but he never really divulged any info directly and is extremely guarded about the stuff he has.

I'd almost kindof doubt Schu really knew much about it at all.....Ed and I have always been the geeks about this kindof stuff.

Not a chance. Basically, given the weird circumstances of what ended Nirvana, it'd be way too fucking weird for people to hear Dave doing a Nirvana song. The chances of anyone who has it (which is basically limited to Dave and Barrett) leaking it out or letting it be heard went out the window when Kurt died

I know maybe only two people have this song Dave and Barrett but there is chances someone here at the board is in the know with either, I know its far fetched but as a Foo Fighters and Nirvana fan I consider this like the holy grail. Lets storm the streets and demand this demo!!

It's probably rubbish, I don't see why there's such a huge fuss over this. Just let it rest, you'll never hear it.

Audioslave = Soundgarden and Rage
Velvet Revolvver= STP and GNR

But yeah good point though. Btw, Im getting really pissed off by everyone immediately firing up whenever someone mentions the fact that Dave was in Nirvana.

Newcomer: So did Dave write many songs in Nirvana?
Board Member: HES MOVED ON FROM THERE GET OVER IT HE HAS A NEW BAND...

Just my 2 cents.

What don't you understand about the term "has not surfaced"?

Have you? Probably not.

Why the hell does everyone want to hear Dave sing this? Everyone knows covers aren't as good, and the original was fine as it is anyway.

It's a morbid curiosity to hear Dave singing a Nirvana song. It could be complete crap and people would still hail it as a gem because of what it is.
