Thanks Simon - that's the only one I see too - but again like you I have an Adblock plugin always on. No problem with timing - but in the next 20 years like yeah?

I listened to your tape transfer. Good effort here, it's cool to know people are still amazed by this demo tape.
I'm surprised the starting of Hell's Garden sounds less generated than every tape I've listened and/or transferred so far. I guess it's a tape that was dubbed in the early days. What is the version of the inlay design (red Late on white paper, red Late on yellow or black Late on Yellow ?). I came by to many different tapes, some were sounding worse because they had been played back a lot, some had different cuts here and there (mostly at the beginning of "Marigold"), etc.

Yet, your tape sounds pretty worn out, it definitely was played a lot before you transferred it.

Do you have a raw/non-EQ without speed-correction version of it ?
Also I'd suggest you use Adobe Audition instead of Audacity for sound editing. If it's about just the transfer it's ok, but Audacity doesn't give you the full extent on sound editing as Audition does. If you need me to hook you up let me know.

Here's the best one I achieved so far. There is no EQ/speed-correction whatsoever, this is as raw as it gets. Beware it's 250 Mb (it's FLAC) and there are date mislabels in the files (see below).

The 1990 session was actually recorded on Dec 19th, not 23rd.
Marigold and Petrol CB were not from that session but from Feb 16th, 1991.
By the time I transferred the tape (circa 2012-13) we had knowledge of two sessions. Since then, Simon cleared up a lot regarding Dave's recording sessions !

Yeah the DIY nature of this whole operation probably means finding the 'ultimate' tape will be a neverending quest. They dubbed them five at a time and there isn't even a guarantee all five would come out equal, if one dupe deck was worn, developed an issue, tape stutter etc. Then you have the issue of how they were stored the last 20+ years, how many times they've been played.

We may need to split these sources we have already, because certainly this tape of FZ is the only one we've ever heard without the muffled start to HG.

Been asked a few times lately to re-upload this stuff from 2014/15.

I did one run in Dec 2014:

It was agreed the tape was playing too slow. Which was definitely not the playback. So I gauged all known references (King Buzzo/Neapolitan Metropolitan vinyl) and worked out an algorithm for how far out they were over time and reworked it by March 2015:

They came from an absolutely unplayed ever cassette (rare Pink insert), but that is obviously meaningless given the 2nd (or worse) gen nature of all the Simple mailouts.

Since then I have found the other one I owned before this one and bought two more. So I'm in the process of starting again... just don't ask when - it will happen when it happens

OK those We Transfer rips are slightly shorter. I'm guessing they were my earlier post?... Before the (deluge) of "man that's (probably the wrong speed set in) where I re-edited them based on seriously fucking major reworking and criteria from Buzzo and Neo Metropolitan.

Anyway... if that's not my orig work on the WT post my apologies... (that's on work disks not to hand so cant do an immediate direct compare)... could be the earlier (considered master version - which is/was also very cool).

NO work on this is ever wasted - it all brings out opinions on input and output...

Anyway... this is my 2015 final (of that source/time)_ I'm still TOTALLY out on a final version - we are simply not there yet. I now have 5 tapes to work through - and that WILL be done this year pre 25th ANN.
