Default If you must, criticize ESPG here...

post in shame!

People coming in here specifically to tell people how stupid they are will be yelled at by me accordingly.

Lol. Thanx Jill. My last thread was more of a rant on baseless disparagement.

No worries at all. Every new thread seems to be a censure thread so I'm sure its hard to distinguish them apart today.

Bangin' should've been on the album. It would've made a good second track, with Let It Die third. Oh well

My only complaint:

Summer's End should've been replaced with Once & For All.

Ok, seeing as there's two threads, I've split my review from THIS POST into the good parts and the bad parts:

3. Erase/Replace: Boring, repetitive. That ending is very, very annoying.

5. Come Alive: So so wussy. Bugs me in the same way that February Stars does - it sounds like it's missing something, like it's building up to a MASSIVE crescendo that never ever comes. Also repetitive. Feels a very safe song, they could've done so much more with this and made it edgier.

9. Ballad Of The Beaconsfield Miners: Garbage. Sorry. Lovely sentiment but such a wet, pointless song but I bet everyone fawns over it because it's "pretty". Same rubbish formula as Razor and Skin And Bones, same bland result. Yawn, next please.

10. Statues: URGH! The intro is horrid, the vocals sound very very strained at times - Dave seems to be forcing himself to sing in a way that he's not accustomed too and it doesn't sound comfortable at all. Sounds kinda Beatles/John Lennon-ish. The "we're just ordinary people" line makes me think of John bloody Legend and then I want to be sick.

11. But, Honestly: This started and for all I knew I could've been listening to a Seafood song. I sort of like the song but it's too thin sounding, if they do this live I would hope that it gets fattened up considerably. It only starts to get interesting when the second guitar (Chris' I imagine) comes in and then it starts sounding more like a Foo Fighters song. Then it kicks in and BAM, that's a Foo song for you... the lead part sounds kinda like a Jackson United song... erm... lemme think... BLINDERS! That's it.

12. Home: Wonderful lyrical content but done in such a drab and bland way. Foo Fighters shouldn't do soppy piano ballads. This is pretty much just Burn Away with a piano. Too long, drawn-out and Dave's struggling to hit those notes again. Thoroughly uninspiring.

13. Once & For All: Start reminded me of a Gin Blossoms song again!! Quite... generic. Should've been replaced by Bangin'.

Overall, I dunno. Probably better than both In Your Honor and One By One but that wouldn't exactly be different. It just doesn't sound like a real Foo Fighters album, it's way too laid back.

Maybe a 5.5 out of 10?

After another listen this morning, Come Alive and Stranger Things Have Happened now sound a little better.

For the record, me saying something is like a Jackson United song is NOT a criticism of JU, I fucking LOVE them it's just their summery boppy pop rock sound is more suited to them and not the Foos.

Once again, Stu loves JU.

Watch it live right here.

And, yeah, I noticed Chris slipping Blinders in there.

Thumbs up Re: If you must, criticize ESPG here...

There shouldn't be that much criticism to the Foos, period.
The people who are saying Horrible, Awful, etc.. couldn't even begin to tell how to make great fucking music. The way I see it, anyone can say they don't like something. But When people put music way down, and they can't even fucking make good music themselves. That's awful, pathetic, horrible, and a very big disappointment. Foos, you did fucking great as always.

please calm down, its a message board to state opinions. When your fans of something, like me with baseball for instance when a player on my team blows the game i'll call him a bum and shit...that doesn't mean i'm comparing it to my own abilities i'm comparing it to the standard set to what i'm a fan of. I have such ridiculous standards for the foos, if i don't like a song i'll say it. But 90% of this album-is fucking genius.

I heard a few songs when I was in HMV yesterday. So terrible, I won't be going anywhere near the whole album.

that was my reaction too- for the first half dozen listens to the album, and i actually had to be conviced to buy it- as i expected it to be mellow crap. But trust me this album is a grower, you may be pleasantly surprised. Its not the Foos we all know and love, but its pretty fuckin good all the same.

I'm really gettin turned on to this album, but Dave needs to quite repeating the same line over and over and over again. It really takes away from some songs, thats what pissed me off about IYH the most, other than the train wreck rock disc and the accoustic disk devoid of soul, it was the repetitive one line chorus again and again. Unfortunately that i think is a principle problem in Erase/Replace.
But overall, i'm picking up on the intracacies musically which i missed out on at my rage at the lack of actual rock, and realise this is actually a pretty fuckin good album. I'm certainly warming too it.

My god, it must be nice to be so naive and sheltered from the world. Take the rose-tinted glasses off and realise that bands make bad music and bad albums.

I fucking HATE people who can't accept that.
