Default My Hero Live

Any one know why they decided to have the palm muted guitar in the intro of "My Hero"? I feel like it takes away from the drum intro. Which is so awesome I hate to hear it covered up!

What do you guys think?

I think the muted guitar bit they do when playing My Hero live kicks ass!

Probably to augment it and try to simulate those extra tom hits that'd be impossible for Taylor to play live? It's kinda always been that way, ever since they started playing it with Dave's version of the drum intro. Only live versions that don't have it are the ones where he was playing drums too

Yeah, Ive been on youtube looking at different my hero videos and its cool to see the evolution of the intro. Theyve done some different stuff, then around 2003 they started doing the palm mute every time.

If I remember correctly in Hyde Park Taylor played the drum intro alone for a bit and then it was Nate and only then did they do the muted guitar.

It's just the way songs evolve I guess. In my experience they're never done after you record them, that's just a snapshot of where it was at at the time of recording.

I don't know about the muted guitar being every time since 2003, that's not quite right. There were definitely versions a few years ago that had the drums intro without anything else, but it's rare and you're right that more recently it's always done that way.

It's pretty much the overwhelming majority of non-acoustic performances since 1998 that have it
