Default Dave Grohl- please do something about this? (Ticket grievances/tout issues thread)

Dave Grohl- YOU NEED TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS PLEASE! 1. Bought the new album ( retail) no code therefore could not go on pre-sale! 2. been life-long fans and bought EVERY album you've made. 3. been to see you live in the UK previously ( thankfully). 4. Only 2 gigs in the UK?. 5. wanted 4 tickets to celebrate a special birthday 5. went on line at 9am - blocked out by all the touts and re-sellers - no standing tickets available! 6. within 30 minutes tickets for Manchester for sale at c500! and c1000 for London on stub hub! WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO ABOUT ALL YOUR GENUINE FANS HERE IN THE UK?
SUGGESTIONS:
1. Make tickets named.
2. Put on more gigs/locations

They did named tickets for the 02 and got roundly slated for it. Difficult to please everyone.

Who's to say they won't announce more gigs/festivals... they didn't say these were the only shows they were doing.

Also, tickets were still available after 10am as they were going in and out of being available.

Also, mailing list presale? did you miss that one as well?

p.s. it's actually 3 gigs, not 2.

Roundly slated by the touts and those companies that profit from it. Idiots that pay several times the face value of tickets deserve whatever comes to them.

Yep.

Also to the original poster, there were still tickets left when I responded to you in the other thread. Not to mention the other two presales where codes were (unfortunately) dead easy to get hold of!

Well that's true. I get the desperateness to see your favourite band, but it's never worth that much money.

This was first aired 5 years ago and still the same issue with these ticket sites https://youtu.be/WWlnL8drSdw
I went to see Kasabian at the Forum recently - no tickets were issued, your payment card was the ticket, they scanned your card at the door, confirmed you were the purchaser and in you went - none of these tickets were on resale sites... it can be done!

No, but I have now. Thank you.
I think we need a system like when you buy football tickets where you need a fan number for each of your friends going with you. Each friend takes there own id. Thing with the system now, that tout dont have to go in the venue. He just walks back to the next customer. Total shit heads

I've definitely seen it done at smaller venues with success. In theory, there's ways around it for touts, but they'll always find a way no matter what. It's a case of finding the way that helps them the least.

It can be done, up to a certain venue size, can be difficult when you have 80,000 people descending on the doorstep.

That would be good. I'm happy to take ID with me as is likely to be required for the London gigs currently. Just means everyone has to come with me which is fine for me, less cool for those that might not want to stand in a queue all day! So this new way would be better.

My personal view is that until it's made illegal to resell tickets to events like this above face value, then it won't really stop anything.

Then that option is to have everyone's mugshots on a registered system, with a customer number, so when you buy tickets it automatically allocates the ticket to you even if your friend buys it.

But then do you have a system where you can opt out with a refund (minus a fee) for resale at a later date (closer to the time). If not then people wouldn't be able to pass on those tickets.

It works for Glasto because the organisers insisted on it - Rage Against the Machine did it for their one off gig in Finsbury Park and that worked as well.

However here in lies the problem: if you look into viagogo/stubhub/other sites like that they are generally owned by the ticketing companies themselves, greedy to make more profit for themselves. So they will resist change as much as possible, as it will affect how much it lines their pockets.

Nope. Simple supply and demand, as long as people keep buying them, they'll keep doing it.

As mentioned on the other thread in there, while the official sites have their own resale sites where people can sell for as much as they want then they'll never help to stop it.

I feel if it was Ilegal, the touts will break that law. Alot of money to be made. And they would probably just get a slap on the wrist

I had a ticket for that RATM gig and couldn't go! Couldn't pass it on either which was a shame.

It would take an awful lot of organisation and expense to set up a system where tickets had photos on and the refund system above. If I win the Euromillions I might invest in it! I agree the ticket companies will never do anything although I do respect See Tickets with their resale system.
