Default Last show indefinitely?

Did anybody see this on the Global Citizen Festival Twitter feed?

David Grohl says #GlobalCitizen Festival will be the last @foofighters show for an indefinite period. RT if you think it was epic

Check twitter @GlobalFestival

Just wondering if it's true, I don't see references to it anywhere else, but they announced it on the live broadcast.

I don't really get why such a big deal is made of this sort of thing these days. This is what bands do, they release a record, tour it for the next 12-18 months then take a well deserved rest before starting it all again.

Hi O.B. Gene and Simon,

I wasn't trying to make a big deal, just looking for confirmation from what I thought was a slightly less than reliable source. I had searched the web last night, but none of the music sources had anything to say about the Foos, so I figured I would ask.

I appreciate the replies; it seems that there are more reputable sources this morning.

There are no 'new' sources as such, it's just some people understood what he meant with his comments at Global Festival, some people took it the wrong way including it seems the festival organisers themselves.

But yeah, no 'hiatus' or 'long break' has been announced, they have simply finished up touring 'Wasting Light' and will be taking a break/doing other activities until they decide it's time to get in the studio, record another album and star the tour cycle all over again. Possibly next year, more likely 2014. I'm sure they'll do a few non-tour shows next year anyway, they always do.

this is just part of the cycle. happens over and over again.

we're gonna be seeing a lot more of Dave Grohl and his new film towards the end of the year and into 2013. That's whats ahead as far as we know for now.

Dave: "We're not making a big deal out of this..."

Entire world: (makes a big deal out of it)

Again? Seriously?

(Edit: Their Wikipedia page has already been edited to change "years active" to end in 2012 three times today.)

It's one of Q's lead news stories today too - and I know it's there place to generate news/discussion/traffic to their site but does anyone honestly believe that if the band knew it was their last show indefinitely they'd choose to go out with a 50 minute set in the middle of a festival bill? It was a little too 'apostrophe' not 'full stop'.

It's only right they take a hiatus after their hard work since WL. Plus, I'm sure Dave's black jean supply is running out. Gives him time to stock up before the next album...

Exactly.
I was annoyed with the whole situation. I think the Global Festival people got all excited knowing it would be picked up and their festival would get into the news. So they started tweeting about how it's the end.

Oh and yeah, it is only 1.50 to save 2 lives from Malaria. So why didn't you make people give a 10 dollar donation? 10 dollars from each person would have done a lot more good than people retweeting and sharing facebook links - especially considering I bet a lot of people removed Global* from their feeds today.

I saw them in Atlanta last week and Dave said they were gonna record an album so they could come back and do it all again. Probably says that a lot, but I have no reason to doubt it. They took a long break after ESP&G too.

I saw this everywhere...which surprised me because I didn't think the Foos were that newsworthy in the US.

Can't the world just sit tight and be patient until they come back? meanwhile we have Dave's much anticipated movie, some side projects getting some love again, etc. to look forward to.
I mean you never know, any break could be extended, but still. I think too many bands abruptly go on hiatus or just break up nowadays and it has people jumpy.

I'm not jumpy, but I'm shocked others are, it's not like the guys need to be 100% Foo minded twenty four seven, every week of every month of every year! Then they would burn out and definitely break up..

He said he didn't know when they would be playing again and that the GF was IT
Meaning....
Damn
Wish we could play all night since this would be the last concert of the tour and
well
They have to make a new album first before they get back on tour again
so
Who knows when he will get to jam out with us again!
I think
he was just kind of FRUSRATED that he couldn't play longer than what he was limited to do at the Global Festival as his last day of the Wasting Light Tour.
damnit!

simon-I was at the festival and that was how I understood it-I hope I am not wrong?
If they EVER, EVER decide say good bye to us-all I know is they had better make it one damn loooong concert night!!!
LOL!
How could they say goodbye to us like that!

This just in :

Despite statements made by Dave Grohl at the Global Music Festival on Saturday night, where Grohl stated that the Foos don’t have any upcoming dates, MTV asked for further clarification from Grohl, who said that the band is “definitely not breaking up”. Good news for Foo Fighter fans, although it’s uncertain how long the band will be taking a break.

or organizers for GF just trying to keep people commenting on their site.
