Default DVD/Live Album from "Sound City" concerts?

Hi everyone,

This is my first time posting here, but I'm a LOOOONG time fan. I saw Nirvana in 1991 and 1994, and I also saw Dave with Mike Ness as well as Foo Fighters show dating back to 1997.
I attended the Sound City show in Hollywood, and I've been kind of surprised that there hasn't been anything released from any of those shows on DVD or even just the music.
Has there been any word on this? It seems to be that there would be a lot of interest in it since so few got to witness the shows live and there is such a wide variety of performers on it.
I mean.....Rick Springfield and Lee Ving in the same show. Kinda awesome.

Anyway, I look forward to being a member of this forum and I hope everyone out there in Foo Land is doing just splendidly.

Hi & welcome!

There hasn't been any word at all about a live dvd for any of the sound city shows. We thought there may of been a dvd release for one of the shows from the WL tour, but no luck there either i'm afraid.

The work in getting the rights to release the songs (live versions) from all their respective record labels etc. would be a nightmare for something that might not sell enough units to recoup the legal costs.

True, but they already cleared many of the songs (and then some) for the film itself, and for a live recording you only have to license the publishing, not the recording.
I doubt that they will release anything, but I sure wouldn't mind if they did. Does anyone have any good bootlegs out there? I especially like the live versions of "Gold Dust Woman", "Surrender" and anything with Lee Ving.

They would need to clear it again though. Also you'll probably find it was only partial parts of the songs they cleared to save costs.

I doubt any of the concerts were even filmed in the capacity needed for a live video release. You really have to plan that in advance and I'm sure people would have noticed if a dedicated film crew were at any shows. There certainly wasn't one at the London show.

I was at the same show as you were in Hollywood and was wondering if you got a decent picture of any of the performances. I dont even try any more since i am really short.

Here's a link to my photos from the show. I got a few good ones here and there.
