Maybe? I'm going off what Dave told me back a few months ago about how they'd steal their donuts every morning.

He did actually say something similar in this recent round of UK press - sneaking over every morning to steal donuts & coffee then every evening going over to listen to playbacks.

Is it the location of the donuts your hung up on?

Dave says he visited QOTSA to steal donuts & coffee, but according to Josh Homme the Foo Fighters studio was where The real culinary delights where located

A live album would have been cool as a companion to a studio album, but I don't want to hear an audience screaming through every song and have that be the only version of the album I can get. I also would question the Dave's ability to sustain album quality vocals for an hour.

VERY glad they decided not to go with this contrived plan. I wouldn't have been happy.

The black crowes put out an album like that, they recorded new material in front of a small audience at Levon helms barn, it turned out really well. I don't know if the foos would suit doing new stuff that way

The plans were a little more extensive than the brief overview he gave the NME:

The album would've been well-rehearsed @ 606, then a studio would've been built on stage at the Hollywood Bowl (isolation booths, control room, etc) when the audience arrived at their seat a lyric booklet would've been waiting for them, a making-of documentary would play, then when the band tracked the album each song would've been accompanied by a visual presentation on the screens.
And it would've been broadcast live across the world.
The Hollywood Bowl was reserved and before Cal Jam was aranged they were going to keep it for the big C&G release gig.

So I've already joked that they will record Caljam live so they can list 50,000 backing vocalists... I know the plans are quite different now, but this definitely makes me wonder if there are plans to actually still do it, not for C&G the album obviously, but for A Live album. Caljam is one heck of a big planning mission, and if they were ever gonna do a live album how much happier would Dave be doing it at an event he had full control over?

Nice update on the orig planning details in any case

Edit:
Interesting too that the album note included on the store also directly mentions Caljam. It was all part of the big bang release strategy. Of course quite pPossibly nothing in that other than timing for the announcement.

So kind of yes, kind of no - although Dave was photographed at the studio, it's Taylor who's going to be on that album. That said, Chad Smith and Jim Keltner are on another track, so maybe Dave makes an (as yet) non-credited appearance on that.
