Default In spat surely convince torture.

Uh Oh... I tried to post a link and I am not allowed to! bbs.foofighters.com does not allow new users to post links until a minimum post count is reached. This regulation is in place to prevent spam.

Jill/Tim, have you tried setting a question bots couldn't answer on the sign up page? I had problems with spam when I set up my forum but as soon as I set a question asking users to complete the song title 'Monkey......' I've not had one spammer sign up.

We do have a question that they have to answer. Maybe it is too easy.

Captcha might be the best option if it can be integraded into the sign up or even for a users first 10 posts.

I'm still confused about why this shit still goes on. It can't be worth the trouble. How many forum users actually think, "Hey, wait a second, I do need a penis implant! Thank you so much for bringing this to my attention!" Certainly not enough for this to ever be worth the effort of spammers.

It's a bot, so it does it automatically, so they set the parameters and then it does its thing and it can be done time and time again.

If only one person clicks a link, it's still sucessful as the bot can be reused with some reprogramming on any number of websites.

Like I said, Captcha would probably help. Especially if there's a way to set it up at registration and for the first 10 posts a new user makes... but vBulletin may not even support this.

How can it be a bot? It has to know a band members name.

It's probably not that hard to programme in those variables for a registration though, especially since it's only 5 options and they can basically set it to keep reregistering.

When I logged out and looked at the sign up page all it asked me was 2 + 2 which bots will have programmed as an answer. Like I said mine is completing a song title and I've not had one bot get through since then. Maybe try 'Best Of.....' or 'Ever.....'.

EDIT: Just looked again and did get the band members question this time so it must be random and I bet the bots are all getting in on the 2+2 question and any other simple questions. Try and change it so only the band member question gets asked.

Good. If I ever had to sign up again, that one would have stumped me.
