I guess I'm more curious as to what's on it that would make them not want to share it. I'm not DYING to view it.

As far as the demos go, I can see why the band would want to hold on to them to release later. But, the band streamed the new album for free before it was released. Allowing anyone who wanted to download it an easy avenue to do so. So, what's the difference? I think Dave generally thinks they are shit and doesn't want them to get out. So, holding on to them for purely financial reasons doesn't add up. I think, that Dave thinks, they suck. End of story.

It seems a lot of people disagree with this assessment.

Tchaikovsky never wanted his Symphony in E Flat heard because he thought it sucked (and so he reworked it into his third Piano Concerto) but I still love his "demo" version and I would think it a crime if no one played it just because the composer didn't like it.

They may disagree, but, Dave has said several times they suck. Maybe he's embarrassed by them. Who knows. But, if he doesn't want them released, then that definitely should be respected. I'm not going to argue the merits of whether or not those who have a copy should release them. That in itself is another issue entirely. If they were released by someone other than the band I would definitely listen to them. Its like a car wreck...I know I shouldn't look when I drive by but my curiosity gets the best of me.

Thanks to whoever put it out there.
I cannot believe they did not release that Come Back version. The song is that good it could have possibly been a staple in the set. Terrible decision to re-write it into the album version. They should just include it on another album as "Come back II". This version is that good, it's borderline criminal not to have it on an album lol.

I've been listening to the 2002 House of Blues show version for years, it's great to have the real deal. Big thanks to whoever uploaded it!

Those exist??

I suppose a Come Back II wouldn't have been out of the question. There's a few examples of bands in the past using two tracks on an album as different versions of the same song. Plus, if Metallica could have The Unforgiven, II, and III, I doubt the rock community would've frowned on something like that.

I don't personally get, as a songwriter who records, why anyone would care if people heard any demo's of their songs. They're demo's that should be listened to and critiqued as such, an earlier demonstration of a song they were trying to nail and ended up getting right enough to put out in the end, it's just weird that people can't learn from their sessions and their process by listening to the demo's.

They're not really demos though, they're final versions of songs originally intended to go on the album. They're only referred to as demos because of them being re-recorded, they certainly weren't recorded as demos.

They were re-recorded and unused whilst the re-recorded versions were released after they weren't up to scratch and then they learnt from the recordings, serving the same purpose as demo sessions would, even if they didn't know this at the time. Thus making them demo's unless you want to be pedantic, although you already have been otherwise I wouldn't be saying this, haha

Hey Ed, we still lurk around here sometimes. I still miss the old TINLTL layout of ff.com. Pretty sad, 12-13 years later and I'm still hoping it will return haha :P

I just think there is a rather big difference between going into a studio with the intention of putting some demos down and going into a studio with the intention of recording a record and basically finishing a record, which they did.

That's like the worst part of the song that suffers the most in these versions.

Rereading this, this thread should definitely go in the FFPB archive. There are a lot of historical tidbits that might be interesting to people later.
