Wow, a few more listens. This album is eggcellent! If I had to pick a weak link, I'd go w/ If I Were Me, but I think all the rest kick major arse!

I didn't get The Man That Never Was the first few times, but that has grown on me a lot! I loved You Can't Fix This from the start, Stevie Nicks rules, always has, always will!

We just finished watching the dvd, it makes me sad that they didn't think to release a similar dvd for the making of Probot.

I think my initial judgement is that it sounds like a Foo Fighters album, but without the Foo Fighters sheen on it. It's like the St. Anger of Foo Fighter albums, even though it's not FF.

If I Were Me is beautiful, I listened to it on repeat all the way to work this morning. The harmonies are so good they'll almost make you cry.

I don't know if it would.
Most of the stuff Dave recorded at home and sent the songs off to the respective singers. I know some of them added extra instrumentation but for the most part this was a bunch of home recordings by Dave. Not sure he has ever been in the same studio with most of the guys.

*Edit*
Anyone got any idea why Shifty's part on "The Man That Never Was" was cut?

All of Taylor's contributions on the album under composer appear as Taylor Hawkins & The Coattail Riders I wonder if that means they were originally Coattail Rider tracks?

He also got a writing credit for it. He must not have been there the day it was actually recorded or something.

Does anybody think Trent in Mantra sounds sort of auto-tuned? They could have very well done it on purpose, but his voice sounds extremely perfected and completely on cue. I haven't listened to much NIN releases post-With Teeth, so I don't know if that's how he just sounds, but considering the digital part that revolved around Trent, I wouldn't be surprised.

Dave says in the documentary that Trent uses technology as an instrument, not a crutch. So I highly doubt he used auto tuning on a soundtrack for a movie aimed against it.

I heard the Cory Taylor track on the radio today. I live in Iowa and my jaw dropped when I heard it.

I agree-it is my fav song from the album. Hearing them perform it live at the Palladium gave me goosebumps and was the highlight of the night for me. There is a bonus track on the Sound City DVD that is really cool and shows the whole creation of that song recording process.
