comparisons between rock and pop are often misjudged. I'm sure Dave considers his music pop simply because its popular, hence the term "pop". it's a lot more complicated than just "rock is good", "pop is bad". a band that sells out stadiums sure can be considered pop, but labels theses days do nothing but misguide people, foo fighters is a pretty awesome rock and roll, but easy for anyone to listen which can also be considered pop. anyways, this analysis can go on forever, I just wouldn't worry about FF being one or another or what Dave thinks his band is.

and during times of fast information and phonographic industry under revolution, labels are pretty much dead, you don't have that 80s is new wave, 90s is grunge and so on, this sort of "movement" doesn't happen anymore.

Pop music does not mean "popular" anymore. Literally yes, but figuratively no. It's rock. Enough said. Glad it will be #1 in the US as well. About time pop and rap isn't up there.

Thanks for posting that. You wonder how IYH sold over 311,000 copies then and the rest never cracked 200,000 before and after (until Wasting Light maybe). Would've made sense if they counted as two, but who knows...

I typically don't really care about this stuff, but I'm finding this all very exciting!
I love how big they are overseas.

Go, Wasting Light, Go!

To infinity and beyond! I kind of expected this album would be big, really really big. The USA charts are full of crappy pop, it is now time to take over America.

Aside from the album being amazing, ya really have to tip your caps to whomever spearheaded the promotional campaign. Everything from the radio dial teasers, to the secret club shows, to the White Limo tour, garage tour, timing of the documentary, Twitter/FB promos, along w/ the conventional SNL/Stern/Talk show circuit...if record companies get behind REAL music, and promote it accordingly, you can stream the fucking album on the front page of the band's website 2 weeks before release and if it's good, people will STILL buy it.

Good rock n roll music has a market!

RIP autotune! Bring back guitar feedback and real passionate performances!

I'm doing the Snoopy dance about this, but stuff the categorisation. It's fantastic music. In the UK it bumped Adele off the top spot. She's probably not everyone's taste here, but she has a fine voice and I doubt she has autotune going on. If a Palestrina choir, a great cast recording of Guys and Dolls, or some weirdy-beardy-folk combo claim top spot next week that's good too.

In short - Viva Musicians! of whatever stripe.
