Thumbs up Re: Dave Grohl done in pencil

It's lovely . You can tell it's Dave but his preportions are kinda funny. Did you copy it? When/where did you do it? Are you gonna do another one? Have you ever done Taylor/Shifty/Mendel/Pat/Cobain?

(Asking several questions to try and make up for the loads of posts you for some reason never got on this thread.)

I like it But I think it would look better if you didn't shade it so much and left his skin the same color as the paper but it still looks awesome

Uh Oh... I tried to post a link and I am not allowed to! bbs.foofighters.com does not allow new users to post links until a minimum post count is reached. This regulation is in place to prevent spam.

a few criticisms regarding the OP's drawing:

first of all, I would choose a variety of pencils more carefully. there are pencils for tracing and pencils for shading, I would use HB or 2B for the the linework, they're not soft, which provides a more steady and interesting looking linework. for shades, I would use 4B and 6B because they're softer and you would get a a range of tones a lot richer and less harmed with lines, you can get a more unified fill with softer pencils than otherwise. and still on that aspect, I would also pay more attention to the lighting, because your graphite behavior will be worked based on that, you would have to work your hand pressure on the pencil to get darker and lighter areas based on volume.

the hair should be smoother too, you work it correctly by constructing it in a layered manner, but it looks stiff, so it would be a matter of loosing up your line work when doing hair, so it won't look plastic. after that, another check on the lighting aspect, so you will get volume right and adding more to the context.

the proportions are not bad, just a little bit insecure, look for "Andrew Loomis" on google and study his anatomy lessons, he's the go-to guy when it comes to figure drawing.

to finish, never ever draw teeth one by one, work it out as a group, make the outline as if it is one thing and then with lighter, finer lines, draw the divisions between them. if you draw all teeth with the same heavy line you will give a crooked, gapped appearance to them, which is never a good thing.

this is constructive criticism and I hope it's helpful, you'll also see from them that this is not a bad drawing, you'll just have better results if considering them.

keep it up!
