Jebus. That's fucked up.

sidenote: I'm sitting on campus right now killing time before my next class and some girl is on her phone talking about how Valentine's Day is her favorite holiday. Really? Valentine's Day? Are you fucking kidding?

See that was my first thought. But now she is talking about how she just bought pepper spray yesterday. Apparently she feels scared walking downtown at night. It'd be fucking great if she could take her shit outside. There's no formal rules but most people treat this lab like a library.

Give her mean, disapproving looks of, "Shut the fuck up or go outside." I fucking hate that. I am in a statistics class that is about to end. This boy keeps asking questions and holding us up. IT IS TIME TO GO, WHAT THE FUCK?

And honestly, it's exactly what should happen. I tell all my friends with teens that they should have the only computer in a room where it is used with parents -- no computers in bedrooms. Parents should make rules to keep their kids safe. It's harder and harder to do because kids can go to school or a library as well. And everyone's got a portable computer.

I agree with you that Brian was out of line to call a female poster fat in another thread. I was furious when I saw that, but I never read the other thread until someone linked back to it. I only saw a spat in political with a reference to FooUK taking it to foo free and then this thread popped up.[/quote]

Please understand that those of us who weren't in his age group and who never exchanged a PM with him didn't know what was happening. Some of you probably exchanged information privately. So when allegations were made, some had private information and believed the allegations. Some probably knew and trusted people who reported problems. For me, who didn't know any background, this thread was disturbing because it's mean and lacks details explaining the situation. Even now, I don't understand what's been happening here privately for quite some time. I can't read Portuguese and the other letters seem a bit off but not wildly inappropriate and apparently none of them were sent but they were published someplace. I don't get it. I can just say that it's odd as hell. I didn't know that Taylor had a messageboard so I had no idea there was history over there. I just knew Brian as a guy who posted in political.

I absolutely agree that you should not share your experiences publicly on this board. I completely trust Jill's decision so I am not doubting that Brian must have done things that justified him being banned, even though I still have no idea what he did. I hope that anyone who is uncomfortable with something that they're getting in PMs will learn from this and bring it to the mods' attention.

I agree that no one should be harassed. If you tell someone that you're uncomfortable PMing with him he needs to just stop PMing you. That needs to be clear. But you also highlighted the other problem. In the initial stages it can be confusing when something flirty starts to get a little bit icky. I think that women should ALWAYS trust their gut on that. Too often women are victimized because they didn't trust their gut and they worried that they would hurt someone's feelings. In real life, if a guy is making you uncomfortable AT ALL, you need to get away. You have to channel your inner bitch. You can't worry about whether he's going to think that you are mean or you discriminating against him or whatever. Predators know how to read that stuff and they use it against their victims. When you're on the internet, it's even harder because you don't have visual clues. You can't hear voice inflections. You have to be even more careful and terminate any communication as soon as it makes you feel the least little bit uncomfortable.

I don't blame you for failing to report something to the mods earlier. I understand that it is difficult to do something like that when the guy is a regular here. I'm glad that because of this it's now crystal clear that Jill will do everything she can to protect young women who post here and that she will address complaints. I am glad that Jill has communicated privately with the girls in question because I'm sure that she took time to reassure them that they don't deserve blame.
I am no where near Brian's age; he and I were are always cordial and friendly. At first I was alarmed by Foo Fighters, United Kingdom allegations...not knowing the whole story, but now that all I need to know has surfaced, I understand the seriousness of it all.

Susan, thank you for your post. I just had a talk with my teens and used your post to explain that it's not just "mom" talking. Although my kids and I have an awesome relationship, I don't want to be naive in thinking they would be embarrassed to come to me if this sort of thing ever happened to them. We have rules in our home about computer use... talking only to friends and never to anyone they don't know personally.

I do feel bad for Brian; the guy is in need of help. I hope he gets it and gets his act together so that it never happens again.

Looks like you have now realized that Brain is a sicko and you're trying to make nice with everyone on here so you don't get picked on.

Pathetic.

Give Chandler a break. He obviously didn't know what was going on and now he does.

He didn't do anything wrong but defend Brian, just like Grace. Yes, they were wrong but lets give them the benefit of the doubt that they were duped, just like some of you were.

OK? OK!
