RFK variants have become bittersweet for me and probably others as well (FooZealand comes to mind). It's a positive but seems to have a negative impact as well. I felt the same way as you till I realized all these variants are somewhat bringing down the overall value as a whole and it's near impossible to get them all.

For example, when the Gold Gem first appeared on ebay it seemed like the holy grail and nothing else would come close to it. Now we know there's Laser ray & Brushed metal both limited of 5 prints just like the Gold Gem. Plus only 1 Water Foil exists. So when you combine those with the other variants it just starts bringing everything down as a whole.

But there is another positive.... each additional variant gives someone else another shot at getting one. After all, this is the 20th Anniversary poster so I guess it should be the most printed as well
Yeah definitely a bit-ah-sweet situation Prices will always fall a bit anyway, then stabalize, then rise. Initially the demand is on to just have one, then the challenge is to find one. The best way is to make your list of what you know you really really want and sit back and wait. Most stuff will come up, and there is always someone selling something where they simply need the cash more than the poster they bought months or years ago, sometimes you are lucky and see a great buy now, sometimes just sheer persistence in continuing to follow an item will throw it up a long time later when very few people if any are actually still actively hunting it because they either have it or have given up looking.

But at the start you're in a serious trade off situation when there are say 25 or less of a given print in existence. You could find the waiting game is very long indeed, and it may just never happen. Five prints with five people that just want to keep them - no chance in hell.

It definitely looked like the Gold Gems was going to be the rarest RFK back in July and after missing it thanks to JR's crappy checkout I stumped up a lot of money. But others then proceeded to pay far more for what I consider a lot less over the next few months. So there's that.

Of course if you actually went to a given gig there's a good reason there to want a poster. Or if it's just awesome and really stands out like a few do.

For me it was very simple. The bands 20th anniversary from the release date of the first album was July 4th 2015. There was a gig. It was IN DC. No matter what happened the rest of the tour, those posters were always going to mean the most overall re the band in the future. It's THE day.

So yeah as far as RFK goes JR did mess up the playground a bit with the second release set and the other test prints but really that's his right so long as it's all good with the band. And what I lost on the test print swings I gained on the Artist Proof mailing roundabouts. So it's all good.

And then you get into the depths of REAL collector-land valuing. Where having one makes it worth "x", but having the same one plus another makes each worth their respective "x" plus say 10%. And having three or more can start seeing the price often jump again per unit in the tens of percent in the long term.

Very good reasons for this if they are sold together or even offered at the same time separately. For one you can get shipping combined which always helps, and generally speaking the chance of any of them being fake (when you are a buyer looking at a listing(s) in the future) is less. But most importantly you know nobody in their right mind has gone to the trouble of getting multiple print variants of a poster AND keeping them without being a collector, so they are much more likely to have been very well looked after.

And so patience helps a lot.

And so well... um EIGHT

I had success with EMEK Foo Stamp "glow in the dark" I don't think the traffic was as bad on this one but it still sold out quick.

Price was better on this one at least. The last couple from EMEK were $100+ from what I remember. I passed on this one, but congrats to those who were able to scoop one up.

Yeah I almost passed on this one but after considering the price and glow in the dark feature I decided to go for it. Plus this is probably the last foo poster for a long time....

EDIT: Drew Millward just posted on Instagram that it's looking like the Barcelona poster will be printed and available

Yes it would and I'm sure I would miss out too. I'm curious, did you know it was gonna be there or just get lucky and stumble upon it?

Same goes in reverse on the Gold mate - It just wouldn't feel right just "selling it" to someone without at least offering it to you.

Yep agree 100% - congrats if you were in, you can't go wrong with an EMEK AP whether you keep it or not. I passed too - my spare money is now reserved for other things - I'm building a "new" Roland V-Drum kit.
