Great album. I bought it the week it came out in 1997. Bought all the singles too when they were first released. Remember watching all the TV promotion here in the UK: Monkey Wrench, Everlong, My Hero and Walking After You videos, and just as memorable the TV performances on TFI Friday and Walking After You on Top of the Pops. Brings back memories of when I was a teen.

I think TCATS has possibly gone down in history as Foos best regarded album (I'm sure lots of people here will have a different opinion).

I doubt we'll get a 20th anniversary release seen as we got the 10th anniversary release which had all the b-sides included. But would be good if they could do a Super Deluxe version with a live DVD from that era, maybe including both Reading and Glastonbury 98, as well as with the TV performances and music videos.

yep! many happy memories around that time. vividly remember the day the CD came out and everyone from school grabbing a copy, listening on our Discmans in the park. very popular album back then.

Still the best Foos album, arguably a concept piece that works a lot better than the Sonic Highways concept piece!

I listen to this album all the time. The drumming is incredible on it; Wind Up and My Poor Brain are right at the top and should be played more live. HJP is the best Foo song that was never a single, closely followed by Enough Space.

I could talk all day about this album. It's a masterpiece.

Seriously the soundtrack to my high school years. Bought the cassette and used to listen to it on my walkmen on the bus to school.

I'm guessing BigCol is loosely deeming it concept because of the "tracklist timeline story", where he starts afraid (Doll) goes through stuff and ends powerful, renewed, brave and stuff (New Way Home).

That's my first thought, let's see what OP says.

Seems a bit of a stretch, but interesting nonetheless. I never thought about it that way. So if we're talking lyrically, I can't see how the others like See You or Wind Up would fit in, not without stretching ones imagination even further.

Opens with,
"You know in all of the time that we've shared, I've never been so scared..."

Ends with,
"I'M NOT SCAAAAAAARED"

I remember hearing some other rationalizations for how it was a concept album other than just the opening and closing lines, I'd be curious to hear any other interpretations.

it's not news them putting some thought into how the tracklist goes, especially which songs will open and which will close it.

in this one it might be more noticeable with those lyrics and the songs dynamics, the slow start, the heavy burst into Monkey Wrench, a middle section that bounces a little (up in arms, enough space), a mellow section with february stars and walking after you and then finally ending with an epic crescendo.

hoping they'll do something for the 20th this year (fuck, time flies).

So, 20 year anniversary of TCATS this week. Unbelievable. In my opinion, their strongest album, my personal favourite album EVER by any band, and it hasn't aged. Great production, amazing songs...amazing.
