If they had made a crap cheesy pop punk album then it would have got top marks in that rag.

Cuchara Sónica - Spanish Review (9.5/10)
In case you're in for a spanish class

Standout comment:
[On White Limo] A track with heavy metal riffs, garage sound, and rock and roll escence. Can you ask for more? Yes, the voice shouldn't have been that distortioned and on the foreground.

I'm still waiting for a Pitchfork Review, I want the harshest bitches to say what's wrong with WL, even if its unfounded bitching. Guilty pleasure, or morbidness if you will.

Rollingstone has posted a very positive review of WL. 4/5 stars.

First off, is that their rating system above the review? 'Cause that's unfortunate.

Secondly, this guy is gonna talk about 'ordinary' using Green Day as the counter argument? The last album of their's hasn't produced A SINGLE memorable song. What's worse, it was a total attempt to recreate American Idiot. Likewise, I love Muse and all, but how many tracks from the last album are really that memorable? I count the 2 singles and then what?

Not saying this guy can't have an opinion - but an educated one couldn't hurt.

Wasting Light got a 6.4 on Pitchfork. I see that they gave The Coulour and the Shape (our favorite Foo album for many of us) reissue a 5.8. Pitchfork is usually where I go to read music news and reviews, but it seems that they don't like the Foos very much

Wasn't sure if this were the right thread to post this question, if not please move. I purchased the deluxe package with the intent of keeping the signed litho and album pristine to begin my collection. I was surprised when I received it to find the album was actually 2 records. My dillema is this - I don't want to remove the wrapping from the album but I do want to know why it's 2 records. Is the album exactly the same as the CD? Or has the album got extra songs on it with titles not listed? Or are the songs longer? Please help, the curiosity is killing me!!!

Despite the mistake, I think this one is quite well researched and written.

Yes, I was referring to the vinyl...so the songs are kind of "extended play", they haven't added any extra playing time (more verses, jamming, etc.) to each song?

No extra play on the LP. They play at 45 rpm and are spread out over two LP's is all. This is the way this album should be listened to, IMO.

If you have no intention of playing the LP, then don't open it.

They play at 45 instead of 33...that ties it together. Thanks!!

I agree, people are being rather harsh with the reviewer in the comments. I don't agree with the rating (I really like the album), but most of what she says is pretty true.

I guess it's down to the individual. It just seems that some of the reviewers are coming at it from a really negative "just another Foo Fighters record" point of view. I don't think anybody is arguing that it's the most original record ever, but it's consistent and more than anything ENJOYABLE!

I often question what exactly makes a record classic? Is it just a bunch of great songs? I think there's more to it than that. It's about songs that belong together and that capture a particular mood. As much as some people may deride a band like Green Day, American Idiot captured the mood at the time perfectly - and I can't help but think that Wasting Light has struck a chord with people too. It's not just becasue the band have gone back to their roots, it's because rock music is really lacking an identity at the moment, and it's been a long time since a really big rock band has had a big record.

Quite honestly, some of the reviews (especially from some of the British broadsheets) look like they've been reviewed by someone my Dad's age - the kind of people who haven't been to a rock show in 20 years. Like they're desperately clinging onto the classics bands from the 70's and nothing else will ever come close. To be honest I don't really care, they can sit there and pontificate over the artistic merit of the band, and I'll have the time of my life singing my lungs out the band's shows

'Wasting Light' is the best bit of work they have done since 'Colour' (its great speaking to you guys . I don't have to spell it out). I have a long running argument with some idiot on a forum because he was saying all stuff they did before 'Wasting' was dull. Ok he has his opinion but his opinion is obviously based on the new album and listening to 'Long Road to Ruin'. Typical dick who likes the new album because everybody else likes it. One of the comments I read was 'I am quite surprised because guitar music is not popular at the moment'. All I can do is shake my head to that. What can you say?
Also I don't listen to music critics. I don't know a critic who can actualy play an instrument. If you are gonna be a music critic at least learn to play an instrument. The only music critic worth his salt was John Peel

Pitchfork Review
They're pretty much bipolar (IYH was 6.8), and they don't like anything mainstream. 6.4 is kind of a good score there I think.

Dude's got some valid points; it doesn't sound garage-ish, Dave's got this "hit maker" switch on since OBO.

But missing melodies? WL is melodic imho. Well well, to each their own.
