Default Chris + Nate

Maybe someday they will be asked about new music and about the band. At the very least, maybe they won't be forced to sit through endless interviews of Dave and Taylor doing all of the speaking.

I love this band, but I wish those two key pieces had more of a public voice.

I always find it awkward! It would be nice if the interviews did ask them specific questions, but I think they're just quiet in group interviews. Even Taylor mostly lets Dave do the talking sometimes.

But I love hearing them in one-on-one interviews, especially Chris.

Agreed, on his solo stuff, Chris has alot to say, and he seems very knowledgeable of the roots of his solo stuff

Chris' interviews are always really interesting. Have you listened to any of his podcasts? I'm not a huge fan of country music so I've only listened to one or two but he knows his stuff and they're great to listen to.

He's good on both sides of the mic, which you probably wouldn't expect from the group interviews. Really easygoing and funny.

It might be the case that they prefer to let Dave and Taylor do all the talking?

In any case, I'd rather that Chris was allowed to let rip on the guitar more.....

I see this discussion on other bands' message boards too, where only two guys do the talking and there's a demand to hear from the others for whatever reason.

In the end, who knows why? Maybe it's easier to just have the lead guy or prominent guitarist/drummer do it instead? Maybe the other guys prefer it that way? Personally, it's not like Chris or Nate don't do decent interviews on their own, so it's much ado about nothing for me anyway.

A lot of the time it's dictated by who the media want to hear from. It's like with TV Shows like The Walking Dead. People want to see Rick and Daryl do the talk shows. Not saying it's fair or that the others aren't good (I've always enjoyed their interviews) only they are the most newsworthy.

Chris gives great interviews - he is very open, funny and knowledgeable. I almost forgive him for being a Gooner

Funny thing is that Dave totally used to be that guy - the silent band member spacing out at the back while the others do all the talking. And now you can't get him to shut up lol.

Exactly. A lot of it doesn't even come down to whoever choosing anyway.

Chris looks so sad/fed up/tired during the Power97 interview.

I love their interviews (Nate & Chris), they're a ball.
Also, I'm not sure if they feel bad about it, or they celebrate it. It's no secret that artists hate this promo phase.

I think they are probably happy about it. Wasn't it Pat, who for years...refused?

I feel sorry for Taylor and Dave getting stuck doing them.

To Dave's credit, he does a good job of describing each album's creative process like it's the first time he's described it to anyone.

Here's a good Chris interview from last year, with Jay Mohr.

Also they're a 6 piece now, it's actually best to just let the one in charge do the talking so you get the most out of a new album promo interview, the other guys will always have a space in smaller interviews to just let their brilliance take the spotlight without much pressure.

The reason Dave is doing all the talking is because it's his band. It's simple. In some interviews with Nirvana Dave barely said a word, while the other two guys did all the talking. It was the same situation, Dave was the new guy and he knew his place. Same thing with Chris... in a way he's still the new guy, even if he's been in the band for 18 years. Same thing with the Stones... Ron Wood is still the new guy, even though he's been a member since the 1970s. That's how band dynamics work most of the time.

Yes! Watching those interviews actually got me worried that he's gonna leave soon! He just looked really flat and over it. I've noticed he's also been shut down by Dave on stage a couple of times recently - in Berlin he was playing this beautiful slide guitar over the start of a song where only Dave was playing and you could literally see Dave look his way and Chris stopped and just stood there. I really miss the days of guitar duels between those two, but it just seems like he's been slowly more and more under-utilised. We should all take a few signs to shows letting Dave know we want more Shifty solos!

What? Which song was it?
