Talking Re: Fan Reviews of Foo Fighters Back and Forth Documentary

Loved it! It was strange to see the performance part in the cinema and it was very quiet but loved Taylor's 'crowd noise'. Oh and everyone clapped and cheered at the end which was nice Looking forward to the dvd.

Did any of you people thought of making a tv-rip so you could share it with other Foo Fighters lovers as well?

Thumbs up Re: Fan Reviews of Foo Fighters Back and Forth Documentary

LOVED IT! A few friends of mine who are not huge Foo fans also loved it and have a new found respect for the band. So all in all it def served it's purpose.

From a super-psycho weirdo fan perspective, I would've liked to see a few things:

-Planning/Construction of Studio 606 (kind of a pivotal moment and it wasn't even mentioned)
-Demo snippets of some of the bigger hits (the writing/recording of "Everlong" for instance)
-TCATS recording footage

That's assuming there was a video camera around during all those events.

What I didn't expect:
-The depth of the Nirvana era coverage
-Shifty's audition
-The intense moments w/ former bandmates
-Dave letting us in home. Kinda felt weird knowing how intensely private he is, but it was important to show how laid back the recording atmosphere was for WL.

It's been awhile since I've posted here but, the build up to the release of this album has been awesome and I gotta say I haven't seen this excited as a fan since TCATS. Not that I'm ever not excited for a new release but, they really did a great job hyping up Wasted Light.

As for the documentary.... the nostalgia aspect of it was just amazing. Growing up with a band like this from the very beginning and then watching 16 years of changes is truly a once in a life time event. Again, they really shaped this up to be their most memorable release.

I really like the animated album cover effect, as well as the intro. It was really good start to finish and honestly I could have kept watching it even if it went for another two hours. It didn't really bring anything new to the table in terms of things we already didn't know, but the presentation and dialog made up for it.

One thing I really found interesting was that Franz and William themselves were actually featured in it. A lot of docs would have completely avoided interviews with them, or totally abridged them. Emotionally it was kind of weird to see the previous and present members once again hashing over this, years later.

I can't help but feel a little bad for both Will and Franz. Watching some of the SDRE footage and early Foo shows, Will played really well. It was just a tough situation, there was so much pressure to make TCATS amazing and he just wasn't translating well in the studio.

Same deal with Franz. His dismissal was a little more vague but you kind of wonder if he was just too intimidated by being in Dave's band to contribute, or just got caught up in the "lifestyle" and just got lazy about things.

Franz did seem a bit remorseful about how things went down, and though he didn't admit it I think he felt like he really "blew his chance" so to speak. Will on the other hand, seemed a bit more bitter which I suppose he has a right to be.

It does really make you wonder what they would sound like if the line up would have stayed the same, or if members left and joined at different points in time. I'm curious that if Taylor was a member pre-TCATS would Dave have still drummed for that album? Or even if Will stayed could Dave have possibly honed his skill making him into a protege of his so to speak, transforming him into a really good drummer?

Regardless, Dave summed it up pretty well at the end. He briefly lamented that the band would have never got this far without roster changes. I reluctantly agree. He later goes on to say he feels bad about the bad things, and good about the good things and how he wouldn't have changed a thing. With that I totally agree.

I would say that the thing I most regret would be the Foos performing at SXSW, since I live within driving distance, but I'm old and have a 3 yr old (who can sing most of the Foo's songs, to my husband's dismay-shouldn't she be singing "Twinkle, Twinkle little Star," instead of "Hey, Johnny Park"?). Instead, I had to go to preschool interviews. Crazy shit. I can't believe someone wanted to interview a three year old girl, when I could have been rocking with the Foos. Totally sucks. Ah parenthood!

One itch I had with the documentary and forgot to mention here.

I had read during my hard fanboy ages, that Dave received a letter from 'Seven Year Bitch' and that kind of "inspired" him to get his shit together and started recording again. If it is still true () I think it was pretty important.

We saw it last weekend,
my wife and I loved it. I watched about 3 separate times over weekend while workin' on chores. This is one of the best docs I've seen on a rock band, right up with Waltz and it was amazing to get to see so many great performances and the garage set up.

Cheers Dudes for keepin on keepin' on top!:>

I don't blame William one bit for leaving. The whole "you can play live but not during recording" thing was somewhat disrespectful.

Sitll, awsome documentary. I was sure that VH1 would be playing repeats but nooooo... More crappy reality TV having nothing to do with music. It's been on VH1 Classic but sadly I don't get it.

I love how Pat's hand is censored at the end at the Roxy while he's playing

It's probably been mentioned, but the UKBop thing is TRUE! We all bop up and down together in a group, and then just bop faster at the choruses.

Yeeeeeah we do! haha. Personally, i find myself doing the Grohl-dance too, especially to Foo's music...which probably looks a little odd without a guitar/being him

Back from the rock-doc here in Toronto and it was FANTASTIC! The only negative was that at my theatre (SilverCity Fairview Mall) we didn't have audio for like the first 10min up to just after S/T was recorded. They did compensate by giving vouchers.

It was funny, sad, entertaining, and in general a solid recap of 16 years in 1hr 45mins. There were certainly funny bits/comments. "What do you demand on tour" "uh, instruments" hahaha... this had me cracking up.

Our crowd was good. During the first half of the performance portion everyone cheered/clapped, then that just got awkward.

I had a great time!
