Default 20th Anniversary year of Foo Fighters begins today. #FF20

So obviously we've a lot of new music and video to look forward to right now but of course the reason today was chosen for the debut of the HBO series is also important, the first of 7 days Dave spent in a Seattle studio creating what would later become 'Foo Fighters'.It essentially marks the beginning of the band and therefore 20 years on exactly we begin what should be a great year+ of celebrations and memories.

On my site I'm going to be doing 'flashback' articles and other features all year starting with a week of articles covering that very first session, starting with this one today - http://www.foofighterslive.com/2014/...didnt-know-it/

I guess this therefore should be the general memories, discussions and whatever thread relating to 20 glorious years of 'Foo Fighters'. If you're into that social media malarkey I guess #FF20 is a good tag to use and get trending all year?

I'm hoping there'll be a few things going on this year to celebrate it.

Fantastic. I fucking miss that S/T era.

Would be ace to see some of the very old Foo board posters back around here. And the old moderators, just a 'Hi' would be great! like Schu, Ed etc (weiztman)

My first memory of the band was seeing the album poster for the self-titled album in the window of a local record store. I actually thought the album cover looked a bit naff, so I didn't bother listening to it (yes, embarrassing, but true). I later heard Big Me on the radio and really liked it, but still didn't listen to the album.

It wasn't until 1998 that a friend of mine said to me "dude, this band is a perfect fit for your music tastes" - I listened to TCATS and I was instantly a lifelong fan.

Damn missing out on the first three years because I didn't like the album cover!

I didn't get into the band at all until 2000 and TINLTL. Just after I'd graduated and watching a lot of MTV and Learn To Fly was played a lot and I liked the video. So I bought the album and listened to it pretty much on repeat for the entire summer. Bought TCATS not long after, and it was my soundtrack to me sitting in my room and playing Final Fantasy VII.

It would be cool to know how many fans of the band still exist that followed them from day 1 and still do. Of course a huge chunk of their fandom came from Nirvana fans but how many are still around? How many bought that first record in July 1995 and are ready and waiting to buy Sonic Highways in Nov 2014.

Come forward, ye olde fans!

I bought the day it was released because I had heard the first single on the radio and it was Dave from Nirvana. I was pleasantly surprised at how strong the whole CD was.

That would be me! Loved Nirvana (of course!)and was obviously devastated with what happened.Thought that was that.

So later on I read that former Nirvana drummer starts new band!(In the NME I think). I bought my st tape! (Sadly no longer have)in a little local independent record store.
And the rest is history!

I bought it on day one (4th of July which sticks out in my mind as being pretty cool ) My funny confession was not actually knowing Dave was the lead singer of the band when I showed up at my first gig (First Avenue - 95). Guess I should have read the CD liner notes LOL. I was blown away from that very first show and how engaging Dave was.

Hey, that's kind of like an iconic photo you've got there.

I was only six when Foo Fighters were born.
But for half my life they have been there with me, the best nights of my life have been Foo shows.
They have bought so much great music to the masses and will continue to hopefully for many years to come!

that's eerily similar to how I got into them. same thing, 2000, MTV a lot, Learn To Fly caught my attention, bought the album, loved it, bought the other albums and now I'm here.

I knew of them before that, of course, but I didn't pay much attention to music at all so that's also why this band is so special to me, it turned me on to good music from pretty much a tasteless kid. I knew Nirvana obviously and I recognized Dave, I liked how different he was and how different the band sounded, he was clearly doing something of his own and that really had an impact on me.

here's to 20 more, I'm really really proud to see Dave and co. bigger and stronger than ever on their second decade together. they really are a big part of my life and will continue to be.

I'm an old fan too and god, after 20 years, i feel old, lol!

Was a huge Nirvana fan, saw them at Reading in '92 and was devastated after Kurt died.... Heard about Dave and his FF new project and was lucky enough to watch them at Reading '95.... From that moment I was hooked

Originally signed up to the board in '99 and pop in now and again (usually around tour/album time!)....

Been fortunate to see them in venues both big and small and met some amazing people along the way... Very excited to see what next year brings and how they will celebrate with the fans!
