Default Could/Should/Would Have Been Singles

A fun project for my Foo brain is to think of what songs along the way I think would have made great radio/video singles (in the States) if given the time/marketing/format to do so.

Here goes:

Good Grief
X-Static

My Poor Brain

Stacked Actors
Live-in Skin
Headwires
Ain't it the Life *

Have It All *
Halo
Lonely As You

No Way Back
The Last Song

What If I Do
On the Mend
Virginia Moon

My Hero (Skin + Bones version)

Let It Die
Stranger Things Have Happened
Cheer Up Boys (Your Make-up Is Running)
Summer's End
Statues

Bridge Burning
Dear Rosemary *
Miss the Misery

Outside *

Sean
Neverending Sigh

Make It Right *
La Dee Da
Happily Ever After (Zero Hour)
The Line

Bottom line, we have this incredible catalog of strong songs from this band to enjoy. I just wish/hope some of these other great songs could be known by the masses.

Weren't Stacked Actors (one of my favs), No Way Back, The Line and possibly Let it Die released as radio singles? Stations in Indiana played all of those songs.

Linky to No Way Back video, which is actually pretty cool:

I was about to agree that No Way Back really should have been a single, but looking at YouTube it appears there's an official video for it

... now I'm confused.

No Way Back does have a great video, but it was never properly released as a single, in my opinion.

I don't remember it being any different than DOA, which was released around the same time. But the station I listen to has a local dj who is a huge FF fan.

Thumbs up Re: Could/Should/Would Have Been Singles

'No Way Back' was a single. It has a video, and was released as a CD single (a double A-side to 'Cold Day In The Sun'). 'Stacked Actors' was also released as a radio single in your country, as well as a CD single in others. I'm not sure how your opinion makes them not singles?

edit : and 'Let It Die' was a single, as was 'The Line', and 'La Dee Da' is currently a "single", for want of a better word.

"My opinion" = I never heard them played on the radio and they seemed like they should have been good for modern rock radio.

Not trying to cause an argument.

You need to add 'The Sign' then, because that song ROCKS!

I remember No Way Back getting some radio airplay, but it's order in the single releases sort of put it on the back-burner for the public by the point (Let It Die was a similar situation on the following album). It did chart fairly high on the Alternative and Mainstream Rock charts though, I believe.

I think it's also the song that the record company wanted to release first. But then Dave and the band pushed for something that didn't sound too "typical" of them.

No Way Back and Resolve are probably the most forgettable singles they've ever released.

PS Not sure why, but Resolve at 1.25 playback speed suddenly becomes a pretty good song.

videos of live performances and tour montages never seem to be as big as the ones they shoot, kinda feels like they didn't want to put much work into making them as big, they just hire a video editor to put together a bunch of footage they already have.

Yes, The Sign is awesome too. I would love to hear that get proper mixing shine on it.
I know Shiflett loves that song.

No Way Back was released as a double a-side single with Cold Day in the Sun. It wasn't all that long ago.

As for songs that could have been singles Gimme Stitches and Lonley as You are obvious ones.
