Default Guesses for FF25

So FF25 is just around the corner and we are assuming that the band will do something special to celebrate. We've had a few hints but what do you think is on the horizon?

Here's my guess (or rather my wish!)

New album to be released July 4th
Big July 4th weekend party

I'm thinking either a party like the 2015 RFK 4th July event or a CalJam type thing over the whole July 4 weekend.

It would be really cool if they got some of the bands that have played support with them over the years to play at the party too.

Plus some Cheese and Grain type shows or Holy Shits shows over the summer to be able to play some of the old stuff and really celebrate the whole 25 years.

And then a tour for the new album.

Seems doable right?

I'm also speculating that we will hear something in the next couple of weeks.

Like a 'happy thanksgiving - here's our FF25 announcement' from the band.

A few of my guesses have already proven right but so far i've got

- A new album (released on July 4, nice full-circle moment)
- A single dropped in the middle of the night with no prior warning because they love throwing a chip and watching us seagulls go berserk over it
- A Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction (eligible in 2020 and they'll almost definitely be voted in on first round)
- Club gigs and surprise sets
- A documentary-style project - def happening as Dave has talked about it a few times
- Perhaps incorporating those Fan Stories submissions as it would explain why they're collecting them
- A deluxe edition of S/T
- A Record Store Day treat
- Wembley

And lots more merch for me to spend way too much money on

I had this one down as well but I realised whilst they're eligible in 2020 if they do get in they won't actually do the ceremony until 2021.

In terms of small gigs I do wonder if that idea they had in 2015 of re-creating the first ever tour, will be revived. There are probably even fewer venues still around now but still a possibility. Depends on when the new music is ready and how much of the year/schedule they want to dedicate to S/T I guess.

It also might have been nice to re-create some of the very first shows, before the Watt tour, but sadly the venues are almost all closed and/or demolished now. Jambalaya in Arcata seems to be the only one still going but online reviews seem to suggest it's not very pleasant these days - "seedy and not very clean".

Maybe they could do a tour in the spirit of the original tour? Same towns but different venues?

Maybe they could play inside the marquee at Reading like they did at '95

It's very unlikely I'm sure but a live video box set would be great wherein they fill in the gaps with new shows and include the previous ones to cover the whole 25 years.

So maybe:

S/T era: Brixton 95
TCATS: Unsure, not many known pro-shot non-festivals.
TINLTL: Tabernacle, Atlanta 2000
1x1: Everywhere But Home
IYH: Hyde Park / Skin & Bones
ESP&G: Wembley 08
Wasting Light: Sydney Harbor
SH: Any of the big stadium shows they filmed properly
C&G: Greece Acropolis or CalJam 2018 w/ Nirvana set

Available individually and as a box-set. One can dream....

I started a foo saving fund last year especially for FF25 - I have a feeling it’s going to be an expensive year

So I'm chiming in on the first post without reading the rest (logic not present) but anyway - just so it's a reaction thing:

4th July 2020 is THE date - so we know thee will be an event on that date. And for anyone that hasn't looked - that's a Saturday. It has to be a party style thing, and be huge. And include masses of people.

Could be an all weekend thing sure.

Could be thought wider than that and be a multi-continent thing, where the band fly from AM gigs in ANZ to LA and land when they left and play gigs on the same calendar day! Don't know that's been deliberately done before?

I also had an utterly mad nuts idea I shared with someone that the band played live from 5 continents - all members alone with a crowd of invited guests - and big screens, wired into each other - with the sound just like any gig - just you are 1/5 of the total and hare screens for the rest. Recorded and transmitted live everywhere multi-channel. Elon Musk provides the bandwidth, and it's the "Enough Space" gig.

Definitely intimate gigs - its the band's promo "thing" now right? But it has to be more than (like 8 US cities) - it has to be a mad frenzy of world cities; in no order, unannounced. Like you will be in France after the UK... and you turn up in Japan the next day... then go to Germany. Crazy, logistically stupid as hell.. totally Foo. And they'd do something equally "stoopid" and say we are here to play you one album - start to finish (good night). On, on, on to the next one...

Any of these could involve another "Roswell" style gig. I totally 100% see that happening. More Frome Grain madness with the same level of dedication to every part. And they have all involved flights so far (literal or otherwise) so nothing is off the table there.

New album drops 4th July - but there is only ONE way that can happen. Can't drop anything "solid" on a Sat. Dave wont just drop a digital anything on a Sat. So it's recorded live. Streamed live. Then mastered and then put on media. The live album.

I'm slightly confused on lead up though - could be a bunch of singles. Could be no singles at all - just more back history all the way (though they'd be running short of digital tracks by July).

There will be a box of some kind (digital obviously and I hope the physical just goes straight to vinyl).

I feel the box could be separate from the album, maybe more than part of it. The timing feels like it could coincide - but then again the next album might just be in Feb or March just to totally mess with everything - I actually expect that MORE than a synchronized release.

Plus, there is so so much footage from past recordings, shows, projects. What are they doing with all this stuff?
Then there is Dave's documentary/film

And a world tour, big venues and secret shows

If they're going to be playing bigger venues at some point then surely we'll find out within the next few weeks right?

Only saying this because the stadium gigs in the UK are starting to get announced for next summer - The Killers are doing any stadium they could get their hands on by the looks of it

I did think the same thing when I saw the Killers announcement because a pre-Christmas on-sale seems to be the norm for most bands when it comes to big UK dates & tours.

Looking back it appears Wembley '15 was the previous November & the Olympic Park shows last year was an October announcement.
