I somehow managed to think today was Friday, not Saturday, so I missed the show last night. Thank God HBO re-airs it like three times a night though.

There's nothing on the ACL/Moody calendar for next week, so that's a possibility.

Finally saw an episode...loved it.

Every time i think I am over this band, I see Dave behind a drum kit and end up smiling like a child.

Love it.

Not this time--I just got back from a trip and I have another one in early December. I went to ACL two years ago for another concert. I love the city (largest state capitol!/stay at the Driskill! It will be all decorated for Christmas!), but the concert I went to wasn't one of my favorites.

If it turns out to be ACL and if you really want to go, and if you are willing to sit in the balcony, then I'd try for one ticket instead of two. You can still search for best available and maybe get GA if you are super lucky. But the balcony will probably be seated and the odds are way better at getting a single ticket if there is any seated portion. There are sometimes stay single seats here and there. That's how I got into ACL two years ago, and that's how I got great seats at Ryman last week for two shows. Though the balcony at ACL was a bit of a drag (I snuck into the main floor/GA about 3/4ths of the way through the show).

Do you think tixx would go on sale for the Moody Theater?

I DO go to school there, so I wouldn't mind taking the afternoon off to stand in line for them.

ALSO FROM THE ACL WEBSITE:

Austin City Limits is thrilled to announce a new taping for Season 40, featuring the return of the Foo Fighters on Friday, November 7th.

Foo Fighters have been busy since they last appeared on ACL in Season 34. Releasing the still-charting Greatest Hits in 2009, the band recorded and released the international #1 album Wasting Light in 2011, featuring the hits “Rope,” “Walk” and “These Days” and earning five Grammy Awards, including their fourth for Best Rock Album. FF founder Dave Grohl followed up that triumph by directing the acclaimed documentary Sound City. For the band’s eighth album, Sonic Highways, the band’s music and Grohl’s directorial skills resulted in both an amazing new album and the acclaimed HBO series, Foo Fighters: Sonic Highways, each episode featuring Grohl and bandmates Taylor Hawkins, Nate Mendel, Chris Shiflett and Pat Smear recording a song in one of eight U.S. music capitals and featuring luminaries from each city’s music scene. Austin was one of the cities, of course, with the Foos recording a track in ACL’s original Studio 6A (also the source of “Two Headed Dog [Red Temple Prayer],” the Roky Erickson cover the band contributed to our 40th anniversary special). We’re sure to hear new highlights from Sonic Highways and more when the Foo Fighters return to ACL once again.

As a special treat, we’ll present a preview screening of the Austin episode of Foo Fighters: Sonic Highways, which premiers this week on HBO, before the taping begins.

Is it me or does Dave tell Shifty off in every episode? Poor Chris.

I think it's more an indication of how much Dave controls the music, but I know what you mean.

I know you're kidding, but now that you mention it, the only time it really showed him during the recording of WL in Back and Forth was the "maybe don't do that" bit in These Days. He seems to take it in stride, though.

Well he made fun of Chris already in the trailer for the show.

Ever paid attention how Chris is introduced during live shows?

Learned a lot from the DC episode. Bad Brains used to play Detroit a lot. Speaking of, it was nice to see some love for Ted Nugent before he lost his mind. What was the deal with Rollins? He wasn't interviewed. My wife said, "'cuz he's a dick, probably pissed he didn't get his own HBO series."

What do you actually mean by that?

I've always had a bit of a sense of Dave being a little jealous of Chris's ability, or, at best, getting the best out of him by pushing him a little.

Well, for example the whole "he's studied music, can read music.. A very valuable assett to the band" - thing seems uncomfortably ironic.

I think Dave gives Chris a hard time because he's so damn dour all the time. It's one thing to be laid-back like Nate but Christ, Chris, you're the lead guitar for the biggest effin' band on the planet! That oughta make you feel good! Get a clue from Pat, willya?

Granted, I don't watch as many interviews and follow each member as closely as some fans probably do, but Chris has never seemed dour to me. The only times I've ever seen him being serious are when he's getting into his playing and not wanting to fuck up, or when he's focused in the studio. Otherwise he seems laid back.

I never thought Dave had any kind of problem with Chris and everytime he talks about him I sense more admiration than irony. if it was like that he would've probably fired him when Pat returned.
