I think Dave is the better drummer. he's got more experience. I'm not saying that taylor isn't a good drummer but Dave is just a little better

By all accounts, Taylor Hawkins is the better drummer. Don't get me wrong, Dave knows how to keep a rhythm, and his drumming style was definitely suited for Nirvana, but Taylor's got speed, skill and more recently, creativity - I think I speak for all Foo Fighters Fans when I say he was wasting his days being the drummer for Alanis Morrisette.

I'd just like to say yes they are both very accomplished drummers and I am fans of both them and all their musical projects (Foos, QOTSA, vultures, sound city and of course Nirvana etc.) but all I could say is to type in queens of the Stone Age Glastonbury 2002 and watch daves performances of the tracks 'Avon' and 'A Song For The Dead. That's why dave is IMO a better drummer than Taylor. Btw I am, as probably many in this thread a drummer myself.

Exclamation Re: Dave vs Taylor......Whos the better drummer?

you can't compare!
Love them both

of course just love DAVE more but Taylor is absolutely awsome!

It's like comparing Olympians at a swim meet where olympian #one (Dave) scores a milliseconds more than olympian #2 (Taylor)for a championship win!

c'mon.....

they are both superb in their own right!

Can't really compare as they are quite different, but I would probably say that...

Taylor is better techincally
Dave is better musically

But it's a very fine line really. They are both excellent. I would probably say the main difference is that you can usually tell when Dave is drumming.

Dave is my fave personally.

Talking Re: Dave vs Taylor......Whos the better drummer?

Ok, true everyone's gonna say Dave, (Nirvana, Everlong TCATS, et al, QOTSA)
but

Tay... k?

Who in the whole friggin' world would be able to come in after Dave and man up and fill the drum shoes as well?

Ans: NOBODY!

I mean WL- he is awesome right off the bat from BB,
and his timin' and feel on songs like Pretender, way back to TINLTL is just
Im-fookin-peccable.

In sum, all I gotta say is listen to the end part of

Best Of You-
I mean just go back and listen to the fills and work Taylor does there
and all I can say is WHOAH!

[Not to mention Live Taylor]

Taylor Fookin' Hawkins ROCKS!

As another dabbler of drums, I'd agree with what Kevthedrummer said: Taylor technically, Dave musically. I vastly prefer Dave.

Dave has a more distinct style, a deeper groove, and a power and economy to his playing reminiscent of drummers like John Bonham and Bill Ward. His playing on Songs For The Deaf still remains one of my all time favorite rock drumming performances.

Taylor is good, more polished, more technical, but when I want those qualities I go for the gusto and listen to the true masters: Neil Peart, Danny Carey, Gavin Harrison, and Jon Theodore just to name a few...

This just about sums it up. Taylor is a great drummer, but has less of his own "sound" like Dave does, and at the same time is not as technically proficient as drummers with a similar style as him.
