Default vocal chords?

I Don't want to be Debbie Downer here..., but

God!, from what I've heard so far....,

Can Dave keep-up with this album/tour? I mean, the songs seem so difficult to vocalize! Or am I just an old worry-wort?

From the live performances I've seen (and many friends who saw them at SXSW), it seems as though Dave is on top of his game. He looks great (better than when I saw him at Austin City Limits with Them Crooked Vultures-amazing show!) and sounds pretty fantastic. Will definitely be seeing the guys when they come back to Texas.

Hard to say. Dave is kind of unpredictable live. He can do a series of shows sounding like he's about to completely lose his voice and then all of a sudden the next night he sounds awesome. I will say that his voice sounds better right now than it did for most of the ESPG era, though.

Stern asked him about that today, and he said he'll know when it's time to stop with the screaming. But hey, keep in mind he's getting lots of down time between albums and tours as well!

I could be wrong, but I heard he quit smoking a few years ago. it's been a long time, I think the results on this end would appear by now, hence the great live performances, specially white limo, he does it surprinsingly well.

can't confirm if he did stop, but it's been a long time since I saw any image of him smoking. not that this should appear all the time, but I can't remember seeing once during the past 3 years. I mean, SOME time it would be visible. I saw Josh Homme while on TCV smoking, so I think I"d see Dave as well.

anyways, he is indeed on top of his game, it's the best vocal performance I've seen from him in a very long time, I'm sure he'll be ok for this tour.

Dave sounded great the two live shows I saw in February, although he did cut the big scream at the end of White Limo.

Be interesting to see how his voice holds up when the tour kicks in for real though.

And that's just how it goes.....Obviously he's not like 28 anymore or whatever. There's wear and tear and the shows are a lot fucking longer than they used to be, but Dave's pretty resilient

Hey, he's not even near Dylan territory when it comes to vocals-
this Dude can belt it out with the Best so I'm not worried, but even if his voice got ravaged, I've seen countless thousands sing with him and buoy him along live out of pure love and joy.
Cheers:>

I'd agree with that, i think this break has done the band (dave's voice in particular) the world of good! (much as i've hated every second of it, from a selfish point of view, lol)

Daves vocal chords are insured with Lloyd s of London.
His voice is golden.
I believe we are witnessing the hottest band of all time...

Talk about sexy now.
They fuckin looked great on Letterman, and sounded even better, they must be in the running for sexyest band ever. Dave may not dance like Mick Jagger, but Shifty and Pat dont look like Richards, and Charlie Watts either.
Someone should start a poll for the sexiest band alive, I don't know how.

Talking Re: vocal chords?

I think it's entirely acceptable to have man crushes on the band, even if you are completely straight.

You're absolutely right about him keeping up with this tour. He did quit smoking a few years ago, Tay is trying to quit now. But any singer has to protect his instrument, warm up, sing correctly, I'm sure he knows how to "false scream" so as not to hurt himself. Just part of musicianship.

I truly hope so.
Whomever is running the show, tour wise, should remember:
A number of ESPG dates were cancelled/postponed!

Really! Missoula... for fewer than 10K fans, I think???

Well I remember he had difficulty at the Grammys in Feb'08 and it persisted on through July.
