the only thing i wish the foo's would do differently would be to attempt a tad more "alternative" sound.

ESPG is kinda more classic rock sounding.

songs like genreator, headwires, exhausted, halo... those are all awesome songs that i don't hear from most bands.

BTW, i am down with the acoustic side, and most of the first disc of IYH. so maybe i only dislike the new album

They've completely lost their edge which is very sad for me because I've had complete exceptance of their work until now. I think something happens to bands once they become successful. It's like they completely forget how to rock. In your honor, and best of you are the only songs with any value. I really do wish I could get my money back.

I like IYH and prefer a lot of the songs to the first album. To be honest, I only listen to three or four songs from that album...

Wow, this seems so late now for me to post but anyway

The Foo Fighters are one of the biggest bands in the world, what makes them so big is the fact that they do take chances, and chances I might add have paid off brilliantly!!! Who wants a band to stay in the same place every album??? The Fighters Foo are outstanding in everything they have attemped so far, cant wait to see what's next....

This is a discussion board.

Different opinions are welcome. Not everyone has to agree that the Foo Fighters are solid gold. Most of us don't. Not everything they have done is excellent, I'm not saying their crap, they're still one of my top 5, but old Foo > new Foo.

To be fair to the guy that started this thread, "In Your Honour" was shit and I was very bummed out to find out that my favourite band had just released such a half-baked album.

I guess I can somewhat agree with you on that one. I mean, I don't dislike "Echoes, Silence, Patience, Grace", but I do consider it their worst yet by a long shot. At the same time, there are a few tracks that I like on that album, but "One By One" was probally their previous worst album although now I'd clearly say that "One By One" is a million times better than "Echoes, Silence, Patience, Grace." Enough said.

Perhaps to alot of people it can be considered like a "Use Your Illusion" album whereas "Use Your Illusion" could've been a pretty good single album instead of coming out as an average double album? Either way, both albums got some great Foo Fighter tracks on them and that album is surely quite a bit better than Foo Fighters last album.

I felt if they just made In Your Honour a single album, it could have been a decent album, but taken on its entire package, it has a lot of filler, perhaps in an effort to warrant a 2 disc collection...

Even then, the whole album is 87 minutes in total length, a CD is about 74 minutes. Cut out Friend of a Friend, Cold Day in the Sun and Resolve and you're already down to 71 minutes.

I was thinking about this the other day. I still support them, and think their new stuff is OK, but I put ESPG on the other day and although I listened to it a lot, I couldn't really remember many songs from it - it hasn't stood the test of time well.

If I'd only heard stuff from IYH or ESPG, I would not be a fan.

I should point out I still love them and will follow them on tour but really, does anyone listen to their last two albums? They should strip down their sound again, they write songs that will fill an arena and it ain't great.

My opinion, I think the direction of the last record has shown how they have grown as a band. I feel if you limit yourself to one direction, or style then you will burn out. A musician doesn't want to give the fans or themselves the same thing over and over again, that's just boring, not challenging at all. Evolution is what a good musician does, I mean I love a band like AC/DC but when I buy the record I know what to expect and it gets well boring. I love the fact that you never know exactly what you will get with a new Foo Fighters record. I think the ESP&G has been some of their best work to date. Lest we forget they are not 20 somethings anymore, they grew up just a tad.
