Default Grunges influence on society

Hey,
I am a student from germany and I am writing a skilled work on how grunge influences the (especially teenager) society. So i was wondering on how it was like living in Seattle during the grunge movement in the 1980s and why people started listening to grunge music. How far did it influenced their perception of life and in other aspects? Why did it "died" so abruptly and why are some bands like FooFighters still thriving? Are people how lived there during that time still loving grunge as much as they did then? So is anyone out there who experienced the grunge movement ?

Maybe get a hold of some of the people behind the bands. Producers and the sorts.

If you haven't already read it, pick up Everybody Loves Our Town: An Oral History of Grunge by Mark Yarm.

I'd also suggest going on Tumblr (stay with me) and asking these questions to grunge bloggers, teens/young adults commemorating the genre. Avoid the #soft grunge tag, though, you will weep.

Foo Fighters are in a large part the continued lineage of the Grunge explosion of the early 1990's. Some would say the remnants of it, but they are headlining more festivals and stadiums than any of those bands in the early 90's did, if not selling as many records due to the internet's effect on record sales. But as I said its only in part that they are connected to the Grunge scene, if a large part anyway.
