it's not a joke, hence the quote marks, it's a similar approach meaning only people very in the know will catch that.

Yeah, I don't want to be amongst people that get off on judging others, for what they wear, don't wear. I think it's an attempt to make themselves feel 'cooler' than they are, have an inferiority complex, just waiting to tear someone down. That's the Uncool part.

If wearing a Foo shirt is uncool, then I don't wanna be cool

I'll be a proud dork

It feels kinda weird to wear a Foo shirt at a Foo concert unless it's a shirt I just bought at the merch table.

Otherwise I'm wearing a Led Zeppeling shirt in there.

Wearing a Nirvana shirt would still feel a tad bit weird though.....

Couldn't care less what people wear to a gig, I ended up wearing a 'The Holy Shits' tee for the o2 gig in September.

My husband was packing for our Richmond trip and I hear him mumbling to himself that "yeah not gonna take that Guns-n-Roses tee, that would be disrespectful to Foo"

So apparently we are team "No Band Tees Period" at concerts.

No, but then the primary reason people go to a sports event is to support that team AGAINST their opponents. Yes, you want to enjoy it, but you are mainly there to show your support. Also, there will be other fans of the other team there as well, so you're showing your respective colours.

At a show there's no opposition. You are solely there to have a good time with whatever band is playing.

I realise that it is a bit of a silly distinction, but there you go.

As for wearing a band t-shirt to their own show - only if I've bought it at that show and can't fit it in my pocket/underneath my other shirt. I will, however, wear related bands. Like, I wore a Foo shirt to the QOTSA gig I went to last week (but not at the Foo show I had bought it a week before that). Often wear Gimmes to Foo show etc.

As kids we thought it was kinda dorky to go to a Cheap Trick show with one of their shirts. You always wore another band's merch at a particular show.

You go see AC/DC, wear the Black Sabbath shirt.

Judas Priest concert? Wear the Led Zeppelin jersey.

That was concert etiquette.

.
Good theory, but it doesn't explain why it's still "cool" to wear an inside-joke band shirt (say, the Holy Shits, or a Roswell Records shirt)

I think it's a hipsterish too-cool-for-school rule personally.

If I like a band, I'll just wear their damn shirt at their damn concert. No need for all that wink-wink nudge-nudge pussyfooting.

Because things that are either limited in number or obscure in their reference tend to be seen as being "cool". 99% of people at a normal Foo show probably won't have a clue what the Holy Shits t-shirt references.

We can argue all day whether it is or is not actually "cool", that's clearly a personal opinion of what entails cool, but my post was simply an explanation of why people do that kind of thing and why it isn't the same as sports.

you wear whatever the hell you want. don't know why all this is even a discussion, there's no concert police to fine you for breaking the "etiquette", I'll wear something different, inside-jokish because I wore the band's shirt before and I like to diversify, I don't think I'm cooler than anyone for doing it, it's just what I like to do, it's not a rule.

I don't judge anyone for any choice they make unless it harms other people, other than that you can show up to a foo concert wearing a Justin Bieber shirt for all I care and I'll still hang out with you.

Oops, sorry if my previous post came off a little strong

It's the supposed rule I was ranting at, I really wasn't feeling judged by anyone here!

Prophets of Rage played a tribute to Chris tonight at VooDoo Fest.

Foos will be playing soon.

They are going to shut it down.

Good night.

We got there late and only heard Lightning Crashes from Live's set. The Foo's set was short. They were given only 90 mins. No surprises, except no Taylor song (CDITS or Sunday Rain). They did a cover of Queen's Under Pressure and Taylor sang that while Rufus Taylor (Roger Taylor's son) played drums. They played Run and The Sky Is A Neighborhood too.

It was cold and the place was packed. A great night.

i get it, well i get that you responded to my question while somewhat 'alienating' those 'not in the know'. That might include Me, not 'in the know'....well, unless you can answer this question...

What does Brennivin taste like, tell me about your experience with it, and I would imagine you need to go clothes shopping cause nothin' fits, you like to spin tops, and you like cigarrettes with your Brennivin?

here to make friends.
