Interesting that Johannesburg was a proposed Sonic Highways studio when the plan was global instead of just US. Maybe it'd make a nice epilogue.

Wouldn't it be nice if they recorded a song there as a b side/bonus track of some sort in the future?

I've got my front-zone standing (that's what we seem to be calling Golden Circle) tickets for the East section for Cape Town show. If anyone is going, come find me, I'm doing this one alone as my friend had to pull out due to work

After spending a few weeks in SA this summer, I would drop everything and go to this in a heartbeat. I WANT TO GO BACK.

How was the show and stage setup?

Being the first "real" gig after the record release I was surprised not to see TFATM on the setlist.

Oh and congrats on meeting them, please tell us all about it!

Can anyone confirm this? http://www.setlist.fm/setlist/foo-fi...a-3cd3553.html

No Breakout? No Feast and Famine? No I Am A River?

... only four songs from Sonic Highways?

I'm wondering if the reason for not doing a song or two more from SH is that it's the first SA shows they have ever done and they think the crowd expects a GH set? I guess we will see when they go to Oz.

I wouldn't be surprised if they only played 4ish songs from SH for each show.

Here are some pics that I stumbled upon:

Five songs. Not playing I Am A River isn't really a surprise for me. No Feast and Famine is though.

It's about what I expected to be honest, except for the first record when it's all they had and WL when they did it in full 4/5 songs is always the most you get from the new album on FF tours.

Now if they would just drop those covers.....

So yesterday I met my hero Dave Grohl and took a selfie with the Foo Fighters. The tour manager nearly killed me.

Taken before their show in Cape Town while I was shooting photos for the meet & greets. When I asked if they could play 'Stranger things have Happened' Daves reply was: "Fuck dude, how do you even know that song? Don't think I remember how to play it!" He apologised and said he will try! Even though they didn't play it, he did mention it in the show. I smiled. Before they started, their big body guard came up to me while I was waiting in the hall and gave me a pit pass to take photos while they played... a gift from the band... Best day of my life.
I'm not sure what to make of the fact Dave doesn't expect fans to know album tracks from just 7 years ago.

Yep, this is right. Sonic Highways track to make an appearance was Congregation and it was absolutely stunning. They played their usual 25 song setlist, and I agree that due to it being their first SA show they concentrated on doing the hits. Many people didn't know any of the new songs - odd seeing they've been topping our local charts.

If anyone wants to read about my experience it's here: http://thefangirldiaries.blogspot.co...n-meeting.html. A bit long-winded, I will admit, but so much needed to be said. I won a meet and greet from the promoters by submitting a video of myself 'rocking out' to Monkey Wrench.
