Austin City Limits in Austin

I tried to think of venues like this in NYC. Not just small, but significant. With all of the venues that closed in Manhattan in the last 20 years, the list is pretty small. Tramp's, the first place in NYC that Foo Fighters played, is gone. So is CBGB's. So is Wetland's. So is Roseland. So is just about any other historically significant music venue.

The only ones left are the Hammerstein (where they played with the Sound City Players) and Irving Plaza. Both small venues, and both available on Dec. 5. But -- correct me if I'm worng -- neither jumps out as particularly significant to the history of music in NYC or to the band.

Then I thought MADISON SQUARE GARDEN! Significant both historically and for the band. But it's booked on Dec. 5, and doesn't quite fit with the vibe of smaller venues for this tour.

Then it hit me... THE ED SULLIVAN THEATER! It's meaningful both historically and to the band -- they've got a great relationship with Letterman, they did the week-long residency there, and played that special show for the release of Wasting Light back in 2011. And since they don't record there on Fridays, the Theater is available on Dec, 5.

So that's my bet, folks. We'll see if it comes to pass. No matter where they play, we all know it will be a hard ticket to score.

P.S. LOVE the new album!
this is good stuff and makes sense. shame there aren't many historical NYC clubs left.

I did not realize Roseland closed until very recently. After all, when outside of Letterman, it still says Roseland on the wall.

btw, I'll just clarify now, FF DID play a CONCERT at the Ed Sullivan Theater while they were in NYC last. it followed the world premiere screening of Sonic Highways and I was in attendance.

What about Bowery Ballroom. Great great place....I saw Pixies there last year. Quite small though.

Ed Sullivan is actually probably bigger.

Another awesome choice would be The Beacon. Can't beat the sound there.
Maybe they will really shake things up and play Maxwell's in Hoboken

They did do Ed Sullivan as part of Live On Letterman for WL. It would be an interesting venue. Hammerstein would be awesome as it was for Sound City. Hoping they don't pass NYC altogether as they did the week with Letterman already.

My next guess-Terminal 5..I Am A River?

Edit. Just looked. T5 is booked.

AGREED! Never even thought about that one... It's certainly historically significant. Heck, it's even been designated a national landmark and is on the National Register of Historic Places.

However, I just looked, and they too are booked.

Seeing how they'll be in NY then SNL would be handy the next day... and why not get Dave to guest host too, what with him being the most frequent musical guest

I've been thinking the Foos would play SNL that week for ages, too. If that's the case we'll probably find out sometime this week (Saturday Night at the latest, when they tease the next episode)

If Dave was ever going to host, I think this album cycle would be the best bet. I'd love to see it, but I don't know if it would fall into their preferred demographic anymore, though.

So based upon this one would think Irving Plaza is the place since it is owned by Live Nation...

So a NYC show after the Sonic Highways episode is pretty much a given. Irving Plaza would be great.

Nicki Minaj is the Dec 6th guest so that puts an end to my SNL speculation.

?? what do you mean?
at this point either Bowery or Irving Plaza makes most sense
I saw Green Day at Irving Plaza a couple of years ago - a
was wonderful
I wish I had known that Billie Joe slept in the park that night, because I would have offered him a blanket

Red face Re: Any guesses on the NYC Venue for the December 5th premier?!

this may be a long shot, but what about The Town Hall on 43rd? It has a lot of history behind the venue.. also there is nothing booked for the 5th. It's a great spot..

Beacon is booked, radio city is booked, united palace, carnegie hall, gramercy.. all my guesses... are all booked.

whatever the choice they make, I have to get tickets (along with the entire tri-state area) lol.

The band is playing on Fallon next Thursday. I'm actually really surprised they're not doing SNL in December.

I was actually considering trying to go, but New Orleans was absolutely perfect and I don't think I could top that experience. Good luck to all who want to attend!
