Trust me even if you only have ten items - start straight away. It is much easier to keep current than make yourself start one later when you accidentally buy something you thought you needed but found you had already bought, and yes I did that more than once before deciding it had to be done lol.

I've got like 40 records since I started collecting six months ago and they're still pretty under control in the box in the corner. I'm not sure I'll ever quite reach the same dizzying heights as you with my collection.


I'm guessing you wouldn't notice for a long time if something was gone huh?

Haha.....yeah I saw those on ebay literally 5 minutes after I posted the links for ScubaFoo. Funny that there are currently 2 on there when I have never seen one on ebay before. Of course I haven't been checking ebay daily for the last couple years like I was for a while.

I'm 17 so that's my excuse for my collection being completely inferior (as well as the fact that I have the records but no actual record player). They do a good job of being decorations in my room instead of actually being played.

40 records in 6 months. x2 = 1 year. Multiply that by 16 years. You'd have 1280 records which is more than me

I play copies of mine quite regularly so Id probably notice sooner than you'd think.

Well more specifically I got about 40 records between 6 months ago and 3 months ago. Then I ran out of money! I've gotten about 6 in the past three months. It's slowed down quite a bit now. Getting collectibles can be expensive!

So...any more foo vinyl collections out there? Still wanna hear about everyone's non-foo favourites too!

yeah! I'm loving it too! it's so great to feel part of something, because when you start piling up records in the middle of people who don't understand it you start to feel a little crazy, misfit, outcast or whatever. =P

although I've been quiet lately, I'm always lurking here. I just don't have much to say most of the time lately as I'm on a self imposed hiatus, I almost went bankrupt with the collection and other things, so it's not like I have a choice...

exactly, it's a lot easier to take a few minutes to document your 20-something collection and then just keep updating whenever you get something new, until you're at the hundreds or thousands.
if you decide to do it just then, it will be and insane amount of work.

well, about the thread title, I don't have much to add, I'm just getting started and the only vinyl I have is the LTF 7". will also have the special RSD Medium Rare vinyl a friend is holding to me until I get out of the money-related hole =P

I also don't have a turntable yet, so I'm not rushing too much on vinyls, it's bad to get a brand new item to your collection and not being able to play it. I'll get one someday, been taking a look at some threads around here with tips on brands and setups.

Yeah, I went nuts on the collecting thing for about 2+ years. Then we found out we were having our first kid and decided to move and everything, that majorly slowed things down. It really helped that there were a lot fewer physical releases during the ESPG era. Now with everything that has been going on the last few months, I am becoming obsessed again. Bad news for kid #2 which is due in 3 months.

Most of my good friends are big Foo fans as well but they are content with getting the albums and seeing them in concert whenever they are close. Whenever I mention something like "Hey, Medium Rare on vinyl. Anybody getting a copy?", the response is typically, "Ummmm, yeah, Not as hardcore as you." They like to look through my stuff but that's about it. And my wife....she just shakes her head.

And yes, put together a spreadsheet!!! Helps you remember what you have quickly (gets more difficult as the collection expands) and for me it was really fun to see all of the info compiled together when I was all done. I wish I had started earlier. I had over 100 items when I started mine. Now have approx. 200 unique releases.....and still growing.

When I moved house last year, my Technics turntable got dropped and broke. I was gutted.

Not having a huge amount of money (having just moved), I found the Roadstar TTL-8600 (http://tinyurl.com/4222s4w) - best £50 I've ever spent, the sound from it is absolutely fantastic. It's also sold in the UK as the Bush MTT-1 (but, fortunately, not made by Bush, who are awful), and was in What Hi-Fi as the top rated budget turntable for several years

All analogue too, and has a built in pre-amp

Still looking for the hard to find There is Nothing Left to Lose. All of my Foo vinyl is open and played often.

I used to have a Technics SL-1200MK2. I had to sell when money was short. My wife got me a Sony usb TT last year, which renewed the vinyl interest. Since I have no Phono input on my receiver the usb with Line Out is perfect. Sony receiver with a Boston surround speaker setup.

I would say my current prize LP is a tie between the S/T Foo album and TCATS. I am glad to have these two in the collection of a couple hundred we have. For non-FF faves, we do value our growing Queen vinyl alot. I am also trying to piece together the last few Rush vinyl I do not have. Just landed their last release on vinyl last week. The hard to get title, Snakes and Arrows.

It's true..you have to start somewhere. You can't start with them all! Believe me I tried! I bought most of my foo collection in about two days...just bought one after an other on ebay and discogs.

Then the credit card bill came and that put a stop to things.

So my advice is to build slow. Don't just decide you need a specific item and you need it now. Be patient and wait for the perfect opportunity. Then some day you'll find some still sealed TCATS in a bargain bin somewhere or something (hardly, but you know what I mean) and you'll be glad you didn't spend $100 on it the day before. Anyway I'm rambling...
