There were also unsubstantiated rumours that there were "less" pressed. I've never been able to prove that, though I do believe the pressing count for the lead single Monkey Wrench was greater than Everlong or My Hero. The last two were prob the same/ish.

Then yep agree it's all down to popularity - and from the start you had the fact Everlong sold BPI Platinum and the other two only Silver. So if there was "excess' they ended up in bargain bins (or melted). That was 97/98 - it's gotten a lot more popular as the anthem song since then. Then add the fact the 7" was a UK only pressing, wanted worldwide.
