Yeah I have to admit the pretender isn't in your face as most of there songs on the new album, but I will say the song as a very powerful point too it. I love that song.

I love the Pretender too... but it is very misleading... even the video clip is misleading.
It's very All My Life-ish. Even the gibson firebird he uses on the clip is misleading, because this album was clearly entirely recorded using semi-hollow (and acoustic, obviously) guitars.

The first impression it gives has nothing to do with what ESPG is... even though when you listen to the whole album, The Pretender actually fits. But I think the album leads to The Pretender, not the other way around.

Put me down in the 'fucking love it' category! I have to make my new ranking for album order. It's very tough. I listened to each album again before this leaked and I am torn to pick which is in first.

At the moment, I believe my ranking would be:

Tied for 1st: S/T, TCATS, TNLTL, IYH, ESP&G
2nd: 1x1 (which I also love, just not as much as the others)

Statues took a while to grow on me. I didn't believe my ears at first when it started. That strange intro guitar line seemed out of place. I quite like that one now. Of the 6 or so I've heard it's hard to rank which is best, which is a good thing.

I like 'em all except Summer's End which I usually skip. My favourite song so far is Stranger Things Have Happened, but I also feel like the album just lacks the right amount of balls to the wall rockers.

But in the grand scheme of things, when you put all the studio albums together you get a good mix of hard rock, soppy love ballads, radio rock and this dynamic stuff so it all comes together nicely.

I also like Home just in it's simplicity. I was dissapointed when I first heard it because I expected this Bohemian Rhapsody style piano crusher album ender. But it grew on me. I think it's Dave's "In My Life" by the Beatles.

Funny how everyone i talked to loves Long Road and I, on the other hand, can't decide between it or Statues to get the Worst Song award.

And the sad part is that I've have already heard the album about 10 timesand still can't like these two songs. Other than this I really really like the album.
Those are two of the only songs I do like. I like Long Road to Ruin, Statues, and The Pretender. Everything else gets the worst song award from me. Cheer Up Boys ALMOST made it except for the terrible chorus.

Even if you do compare it to their earlier stuff it's still great.

Let It Die, Stranger Things Have Happened and But Honestly are awesome.

People should not compare, every Foo album is unique in its own way.

Let it Die and But Honestly for me. I just LOVE it too. Now I'm no music critic nor do I know anything "technical" about it. I just know it rocks, I feel great when I'm singing my lungs out to it. Simple as that.

I got my copy yesterday I love Let it die, and Home is really pretty. Though I'm not quite sure about Ballad of the Beaconsfield Miners
