Well . . . to be fair . . . the band would need to be more disciplined in the studio. So in that sense, I don't blame them. But yeah, I would be a little surprised if they didn't record to tape.

Besides the obvious 70's inspirations in sound, a lot of influences from contemporary bands the Foos admire shine through on this album. From the top of my head, La Dee Da sounds like a song Josh Homme could write while the beginning of Dirty Water wouldn't have been out of place on an album in the White Pepper/Quebec era of Ween.

Second time through and I am SO impressed.

I didn't expect to get that same tingly feeling again, but I did.

I really really REALLY like this album. It's transportive and kind of profound.

I could listen to this over and over just to focus on each instrument and not get bored (which I'm probably going to do).

I will also say that, while I don't necessarily agree with the band's political views, I truly admire the fact that this album may be the most nuanced and earnest explanation of how the other side sees things that I've come across. (And if Arrows is indeed about HRC, I appreciate Dave could see through her phoniness).

I also feel there's some music-nerd type stuff going on with the music, but I'm gonna let my subconscious pick it over.

Not to be pretentious, but I think this might be art with a capital A.

Some of the lyrics don't fit for Arrows to be about Hillary Clinton, nor Courtney, IMO.

She was a friend of mine
She led a quiet life
Years passed her by, waiting to rise
Queen Gemini

Never heard anything about Dave being friends with HC at any point, neither led a quiet life and neither are Geminis.

Wasn´t Arrows supposed to be about Dave´s mom and how she raised two kids by herself?

I don't think she's a Gemini. He's wished her happy birthday in August before.

She had to play doting political spouse for decades before "her turn".

I wouldn't assume a birthday reference. That could be a reference to the symbol of two women facing each other. Literally: two faces.

I'm not taking things so literally.

The album seems to be about how we ended up where we are at today . . . just saying, there's a poetic way to read it that doesn't require looking at the birthdays of Dave's Contact List.

Hmm, could be. I was wondering about the Gemini meaning the other, instead of birthdays before these posts too. Definitely interesting lyrics on this album.

I've barely scratched that surface.

This album has depth, that's for sure.

I was worried first 2 listens, not too many seemed to click. But now on 3rd try, it has! Most of the tracks seem to kick ass, typical for Foo!

Make It Right ... I can't place what that reminds me of, I think a KISS song perhaps.

TSIAN, La Dee Da, Dirty Water, Arrows ... all in order makes for an incredible 4 consecutive tracks!

And I mentioned on first listen, Happy Ever After is great too (although I would put both Stranger Things and Subterranean ahead of it)

So for the ones that haven't clicked mainly are T-Shirt and Sunday Rain (it's not bad, it's just no Cold Day in the Sun).

I think La Dee Da has taken over as my favorite on 3rd listen, let's see if it can keep that title on listen #4.

Dave said he wrote Arrows about his mom and her struggles.

From Kerrang, via FooArchive

Quote:
Dave's introspective side is heard best on the brooding Arrows "I wrote that about my mother raising two children on her own on a dead-end street," he reminisces. "As a parent now, I understand more how much of a struggle that must have been for her to keep the family not only together, but happy - which we were. I think that if you're writing from a place that is real, then everything influences you."

I actually feel weird for liking this so much, but eff it, third listen half done ... I truly wasn't expecting the kind of reward C&G offers.

I was feeling a little jaded about music in general, so it's pretty inspiring to hear progessions I've never heard before.

Don't believe it when they tell you it's all been done before! :lo

Edit: I meant to quote Wicked Gravity, but I can't edit this on my phone.

I don't think my interpretation is accidental .... this album functions on another level, so it wouldn't shock me if we are BOTH right.

I know what you mean though. It's still my favorite on the album. Could it be a legit next single?

It could have been Chris' moment to shine because he's an excellent lead guitarist, but it never comes.
this one and The Line might be the 2 that has grown on me the most, at first the build up to no chorus bothered me but when it goes into the la la las it's a better pay off than what I initially thought it was.

this song could also easily be on a Coattail Riders album, the 70s vibe and the frantic drumming might be the biggest indicators.

I feel like a solo could be cool too.

How about a triple: every guy with a crazy Gemini ex will feel like this is written just for them.

You may not think so, but I see possibilities in every song, be it political, relationship-related or related to life in general.

I think this was written with extra lyrical care, and it shows.

Oh my God chill.

, if you want to think that most people would listen to that and think of their mothers, I can't stop you.

All I can say is, in execution, it does NOT come across as an ode to motherhood, but that's MY interpretation. Just like you have yours.

Think what you want & I'll do likewise.

That's the same thought I had. I'm a big KISS fan and it sounds a little like them and some other band I can't put my finger on.

My 3 favorite songs are:

1A) La Dee Da
1B) Run
2) Make it Right

Dirty Water and The Line have gotten better after each listen.
